Getting Taken

by ShanghaiBobby

I was out the other night and taken in bt 2 women. I found out that my credit card was billed over 3000USD. I cancled the card before the posting of the bill. WIll the poeple that were responsible come after me now that I have canceled the card?

Re: Getting Taken

do you have a last will and testament?

Re: Getting Taken

by xymmot

If you didn't authorize the charge, you have no problem. It can be consider a fraudelant charge or a stolen card, but if you gave it to someone to pay a bill, knowly with a reciept, sorry pal, you have been dupped. Cheers Tommy x

Re: Getting Taken

Not worried about the charges. More concerned with what the people will do as retaliation.

Re: Getting Taken

shanghai is a big city...how about moving...address unknown and do not ever go around your old foot steps.

Re: Getting Taken

by Stepwalk

It's highly unlikely that you will hear anything more about this: they will move on to easier targets rather than risk being caught coming back at you.

I'm curious, how did you know you were charged the $3000 if it did not hit your bill? Did someone hand you a receipt? If you didn't authorize the charge, you should have immediately told your credit card company that fact, rather than cancelling the card. As it is, I would fully expect the credit card company to come after you, and the establishment also. The way you've described it, from the bank's perspective, it looks like you just charged $3000 and then skipped out on the bill.

Re: Getting Taken

Maybe you were not taken and charged 3000 yuans which is reasonable to be taken out with two women. Otherwise you may have just been really Shanghaied. LOL

How long were you with the "Girls".

With a 'nom de plume' of Shanghaibobby it sounds like the OP may know their way about Shanghai.

Forgive me if I am wrong but it all sounds a bit 'sus' to me.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Suzhou - beautiful canal town

by albaaust

Suzhou was a pretty little "town" for us and very easy to walk around though I suspect you could easily negotiate with a local three wheeled taxi to take you to the major sites for the day.

We caught a train from Shanghai and spent a very leisurely 5 hours in the town.

There is Daily flight between Shanghai to Huangshan which takes 40 minutes.
Our mode of transportation was
Shanghai to Tunxi(Huangshan) - Flight(One way Rmb 460).

Tunxi to the foot of the Huanshan mountain - Hired Taxi(available in front of Internatinal Hotel Rmb 140)

From the foot of the mountain to a place in the mountain- Cable car (Rmb 55)

From there onwards by foot all the way.

During the return journey we planned to see the ancient villages so we hired a Taxi costing us 200 Rmb which will take u to the village.

Shanghai World Expo - Expo passport

by yskoon

You can purchase an Expo passport for RMB30 at the Expo shops within the site. The pages in the passports can be stamped when you visit the country pavilions. Sometimes the stamping is done upon entry but usually it is done upon exit.

You can also customise the passport to include your particulars and photo for RMB20 all done within 15 mins. Just make sure that they get the nationality correct. They made me a China citizen without first verifying with me!

Only 44 countries are featured in the passport. Each page of the passport features one of these countries. Do note that some countries do not provide stamping even though it is featured in the passport eg Brazil, France, Italy, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, USA etc. However you could have these stamped at their countries trade representatives in the Corporate Pavilions in Zone D or E, eg Bologna (Italy), Ile de France (France), Sao Paulo (Brazil).

There are about 2 blank pages at the back of the passport for the 150+ countries not featured in the passport. Obviously this is not enough. You might want to create a small passport sized notebook which can be used as a supplement.

Also it is useful to keep a tissue to mop up the excess ink after stamping so that it does not smudge the opposite page.

Visit JIN MAO TOWER (Grand Hyatt Hotel). It is the tallest building in China, the 3rd tallest in the world. It's lobby on 54/F with fantastic view over Shanghai. There's another lounge on 77/F, go up there and Shanghai city is on your foot!!!
