most of the computer stores where you will get good bargins are small stores within a huge "digital complex", there are several in Shanghai, two larger ones are one on Weihai Road, one over in Pudong. You need to negotiate a lot to get some prices.

At Bao Shan Road stop of the Metro, you will find about 300 computer stores, all about the size of a small bedroom, many selling second-hand stuff, others selling new stuff. I dare say none of them have a web site and if they did, no one would care to look at the web site. Prices are determined on the spot by bargaining and the market for certain categories of items fluctuates so a web price could be too high (bad press) or too low (angry customer). You will also find a few dozen folks at the same location selling such goods on a cloth spread on the sidewalk. I'm sure you know what that type of warranty is worth.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

'Hundred Years Old' Shop Brands

by goglobe

Even though the main streets turn modern and trendy day by day, Shanghai retains its historic and nostalgic feel as many 'hundred year old shops' brands still rule the city. Here at Nanjing Road is one selling local food and preservatives, frequented by locals throughout the day.

Views don't get much better than this!

by rabbit06 about Vue Bar and Restaurant

Vue Bar features fantastic stunning views over the Huangpu river, so go late for the beautiful Shanghai night lights and take your camera. It is in a relaxed setting with plenty of staff for great service and even if the drink price's are paying for this privilege, indulge yourself, when will you be back? They also have an indoor spa pool bubbling away, so don't be shy take a plung....lol!!!! Well worth it! Well Rabbit was allowed entry on " tidy but casual " but it is the "Hyatt", so be neatly dressed!

Local foods!

by rabbit06 about Wu Qi Tang Quan Restaurant

Shanghai food, were the locals dine with very pleasant surroundings, good service and if you are in a private room ask for the air conditioning. We ate here twice and for me prefered the lunch, much more relaxed and the staff could not do enough!! Do try the local noodle, this is very Shanghai which gets my taste buds going and the beef, pork, fish, tofu etc, etc......lol

Yu Garden

by traveloturc

Yu Garden is one of the most famous gardens in China and is national heritage listed. It was built in 1559 and extended in 1577. Each section of the garden is separated by curved white walls crowned with the head and body of a dragon. It's named after the original owner.
Yu Garden is decorated with rocks. One of the rocks is said to have been the property of Emperor Hui Zong (AD1082--AD1135) in the Song Dynasty. Rock buildings, such as the Grand Rockery and the Hall of Mildness, are the sites you shouldn't miss. Beside Yu Garden the Bridge of Nine Turnings zigzagging across an ornamental lake leads to Shanghai's most famous tea house. Bill Clinton, Gerhard Schroeder and the Queen of Great Britain have been guests there.
The famous Nanxiang restaurant is near the entrance of Yu Garden, selling various types of delicious steamed dumplings. The tasty food attracts a swarm of locals and tourists. The Temple of the City God, Shanghai Old Street and Chenxiangge Nunnery are also near Yu Garden and all these sites represent typical Shanghai. Don't miss the shops lining the streets selling handicrafts, teas, silk clothes, calligraphy, jade decorations and china. Picking up one or two pieces as gifts for family, relatives and friends is definitely a good idea – even if at inflated prices.

Tickets: 30 yuan; 10 yuan for children under 140cm tall and elderly aged over 70.
Hours: 8am - 5:30pm

Turbo capitalism à la communism

by 2rs

21st century cityscapes - If you thought China was lots of people on bicycles all wearing the same clothes. Think again - Shanghai is just like any other megacity, stuffed with cars, well dressed people, expensive shoping malls, McDonalds & KFCs. The difference is - it's all in Chinese.

Work in progress -
