shopping in Shanghai
by concorde7
there are several elecronics malls in downtown Shanghai. i've found really difficult to barter with these guys though i have bought SD cards for my camera and they were half price from France : i have paid 240 RMB for 1 GB KINGSTON SD card( very good quality!)
if you want to buy electronic stuff, do expect to pay half price , which is quite good!
you will find everything you want for your ipod or nano......
only problem they don't speak much english so i ended up doing drawings on a piece of paper!
if you of course live in the US prices may not be interesting for you; but as we get ripped off in Europe i thought prices were reasonable, don't forget to barter!
one advice, ask your hotel concierge where these electronic places are in Shanghai, i never went back to the same one ever, the choice for goodies and retailers is endless so be patient! HAPPY SHOPPING!
also better pay in cash
Great Western Food at Decent Price
by konniemario about Arch Cafe
Sleek and stylish interior, originally opened for the designer crowd but became quite popular for the overall expat crowd. It's not a big place so better hope that whenever you visit it's your lucky day coz chances are it'd be jampacked with people. It's got very good food, nice presentation and believe it or not, very reasonably priced. Never went back to Element Fresh for their Weekend Brunch after we discovered Arch's. Try their Weekend Brunch...very good deal and very good food; Other alacarte items are good too. Just had Chicken Pesto with Feta Cheese today. Oh did I mention the cheesecake that is to die for? :-)
Fake designer bags from Xiang Yang market
by Simon4rings
These are some fake designer bags from Xiang Yang market. Quality varies, so choose carefully. Remember to bargain to about 60%-70% of the original opening price. This should work out to not more than US$10 - US$15 for a medium size bag.
City God Temple
by Willettsworld
This lively small Taoist temple is located in the Old Town district of Nanshi. The temple was originally called the Jinshan God Temple, dedicated to the spirit of Jinshan, or "Gold Mountain", an island off the coast of Shanghai. It was converted into a City God Temple in 1403, during the Yongle era of the Ming dynasty.
During the Qing Dynasty, the temple grew popular. Residents of the old city as well as nearby areas visited the temple to pray for good fortune and peace. During the Cultural Revolution, the temple was closed down and used for other purposes. For many years, the main hall was a jewellery shop. In 1994, the temple was restored to its former use as a temple, with resident Taoist priests.
Admission: Y10.
