The Bund is a great part of...
by zizquark
The Bund is a great part of Shanghai that shows the influences of the outside world on not only the city, but China in general. On one side of the river (Pu Xi) you have the European style buildings that were erected when the British and French divvided up Shanghai around the turn of the century. On the other side of the river (Pu Dong) you have the ultra modern, almost futuristic TV Tower, Jin Mao tower, and other office buildings. A fun way to cross the river is the new Tourist Tunnel. It's located just off Nanjing Road. You will see signs leading to the tunnel on both sides of the river. It's basically a Disneyland land ride mixed with cool club lights and music. It's 30 Yuan roundtripto cross the river.

by FreeCloud
The newly built Shanghai Maglev Train system is the first application of German electronic MAGnetic LEVitation technology.
Between Pudong International Airport and Longyang Lu Station on Metro Line 2, about 30 miles, the SMT took 7.5 minutes on its maiden trip on December 31, 2002, with a speed of 430 KM/Hour. This distance usually would take around an hour by car.
The SMT would be open to public during weekend as a tourist attraction for a year, with two types of ticket, RMB 150 or
RMB 300 per person for either regular or VIT car, respectively. It is planned to start scheduled operation after one year trial (the 'tourist attraction').

This museum boasts 120,000 Chinese art pieces and archaeological findings. Permanent exhibits feature bronzes, ceramics and paintings, among other artifacts. Other facilities include a library with 20,000 books, a conservation laboratory and a lecture room. There is a gift shop on the first floor, a non-smoking teahouse and several antique and curio stalls. The building itself is an architectural showpiece, resembling an ancient tripod when viewed sideways. The rooftop with glassed dome is modeled on a Han Dynasty mirror.
Shanghai Pudong Development Bank dome.
by Guantanamera
Shown here, the exterior of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank as seen from the Bund Promenade... Notice the old European style architecture in the columns and dome... Of course, today the Chinese take care to show that the building is not owned by the European imperialists by topping it with Chinese flags...
