Hotel suggestions

by winkd2

Greetings!

Will be visiting Shanghai later this year and would like suggestions on hotel options. I will be visiting Shanghai for EXPO and would prefer a hotel that has easy access to the Expo site. I was thinking of staying on the Pudong side of the river. Cost is less of a concern.

I do not want to spend alot of time traveling between the hotel & the Expo site

Thanks for the help!

Hi there, I can only tell you where we stayed and would highly recommend it. We stayed at the Metropole which is very central and close to Subway station. Its not on the Pudong side, but as I said subway station only about 5 minutes walk away. The Hotel has a lot of charm, built in the 1930's and was fantastic value for money, but most importantly, very very central. There is info and pics on my Shanghai page.

What ever you do have a great time! Pudong is very bubbly side of Shanghai, although you will find Puxi has a lot to offer and by the sound of it, you may be there for Expo? So the closer to your work the better! And the best advice for you is to avoid downtown traffic and the #1 metro line at peak times!!!!!!!

How many days will you be in Shanghai, and how many of those days would you spend visiting the Expo?

Great dining experience

by dgalv about Tan Wai Lou

Overall the food was great. My appetizer had melon, and that did not have any taste. I was there in Feb. and the melon's were out of season. I also had prawns with mushrooms, and vegetables in a broth. That was very nice. The presentation is very nice also. The prawns with mushrooms and vegetables. It's the best because it is the only one I had.

Spectacular Night View of Shanghai

by Azri_Azmi

Took the biggest boat available for this activity. It cost RM70 per person. This boat offer 5 deck all together. Had to pay another RM60 per person to seat next to the railing on the top deck. This to ensure total access to view the night scenery of Shanghai without having to push around with other crowd. By paying the extra RM60, you are also being served with 2 soft drinks and 3 packets of nuts. A traditional live band also playing endless classic chinese tune all along the cruise.

Another activitiy not to be missed in Shanghai. Great view of Shanghai at night. The syncronization of lightings amazed all of my group members, even others.

One thing that really caught our eyes is that Malaysia Airline also participate in promoting Malaysia by placing a billboard along the river.

A MUST DO activity in Shanghai.

Crown of the Orient

by cheezecake_deli

The largest pavilion at the 2010 World Expo is the Chinese National Pavilion, also known as the Crown of the Orient. Shaped like an ancient crown (an inverted pyramid), it is 63 metres high and painted bright red. Inside are exhibitions from the various provinces of China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau). It will remain a permanent structure after the Expo has concluded.
