Spring Garden Hotel (Courtyard): Fantastic Hotel by Tianmen square
Situated only 5-6 min's off Tianmen Square in the middle of a Hutong area. The most helpful and friendly staff I have ever experienced in a hotel anywhere. Nice clean rooms with shower and wc in every room. Only eight rooms situated around a central courtyard. Breakfast is served in the Dining room: European style or Chinese style. No other meals served.
I can really recommend this hotel to all travellers who are interested to see more of how ordinary chinese people live and what some of the hutong areas are like.
Unique Quality: There are two hotels with the same name: South and East. South is closer to Tianmen square and East closer to the Xidan shopping street. We stayed in both. They are both good, very clean and neat and excellent service by all the staff: the girls in the reception and the cleaning staff. Very nice and very service minded and extremely helpful. They helped with everythin from explaining lots of things to writing notes to taxi drivers to showing the nearest way through the Hutong area.

Chang An Grand Hotel
The Days Hotel and Suites aka: The Baby Hotel aka: Chang An Grand Hotel has great rooms, wonderful service, delicious buffet breakfasts (included). It is on a grand boulevard, and has banks, grocery stories, restaurants and even one of the famous Beijing Markets located next to it. It is also called the BABY hotel, because that is where parents stay that are adopting Chinese babies (almost all girls). They are just adorable crawling around at a certain time in the morning for breakfast. If you hate kids, eat early. I thought they were quite entertainig, and the parents spoke many. many different languages. Very SAFE.

Unique Quality: I recommend this hotel, it had a variety of international guests, multi floors, great views (although there is usually too much smog to see anything). The staff was extremely professional and will do anything for you. Language faux pas are very funny.

Sihe Hotel: Sihe Hotel
We stayed at the Sihe for four nights in Nov, 2006. The hotel is a classic courtyard residence that has been converted to a hotel. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms to the side of the courtyard. We paid $50USD/night, including all taxes and breakfast. Room was small but comfortable with cable TV (some English). Bath was recently remodeled. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall, we loved the place, the only small disappointment was the breakfast. Breakfast was not very well done. There was a choice of four entries and none were very appealing by western standards. Eggs were greasy, bacon undercooked, toast a little limp. However, there was plenty of fruit and dry cereal. Coffee was very good. The staff was very pleasant and extremely helpful.
Internet was available for 4RMB/half hour (50cents USD).
Unique Quality: The big appeal to this hotel is its location, being in a Hutong area with all the various small shops, stores and restaurants typical of a Hutong area and within walking distance to the great shopping streets (5-10 minutes) and the Forbidden City/Tiennaman Square (30-40 minutes, but a fantastic walk). We had read somewhere that the Sihe was once the home of a Warlord and also once the home of a Chinese Opera star.

Scitech Hotel: Good Loacation in Beijing
The rooms were very clean and the staff was as efficent as you can expect in china. The beds and sheets were a little hard and itchy, but you can't really beat the location. It is within walking distance of the silk and pearl markets.

Far East Hostel: Beijing accomodation
Nice place, close to Tien An'Men and in the middle of the colourful hutongs.
Good service, laundry, telephone and internet availlable.
The old building has a great atmosphere and there's a nice courtyard where you can drink a beer and meet other travellers.

Beijing International Hotel: 5-stars hotel in Beijing
I went in China with a group of students when I was in high school. We were 45! I never thought that we would stay in such luxury! :) It was so nice!! The rooms were big, we had an awesome view, because it's situated in the center of the city. There are two buffets for the breakfast: Chinese and American. The food is very good! :) I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, everything was great! Except that if this hotel wasn't included in the price of my trip, I wouldn't choose it because it's very expensive: approximately 230$US per night!
Unique Quality: The pool is awesome!!! :)) You have to pay, but it's worth it!

China World Hotel: Best Hotel
It's alittle pricey but well worth it. The service is increidble. THere is always someone at the front desk who speaks English. It's only about a 5-10 minute walk to the silk market and only about 5-10 minutes more to The Forbidden City.
