Datong seemed to me very backward, when I visited it in 1988. But in fact it has more than a million inhabitants and new highrise buildings all around.

My first impression of China
"In the city"
Here You can see a view from the drum-tower in the city-centre. In fact the centre is much more modern than this picture shows, I just liked to see so many pool-tables, especially in open-air!
"Yunggang grottoes"
One of the most famous spots in Shanxi province. As the name tells, You can find lots of grottoes here with thousands of Buddha-statues, smaller and bigger ones. The smallest are just a few centimetres high, the biggest ones several metres tall.
