Buildings of Pingyao
by Willettsworld
I took a walk around the eastern side of the town where no tourists seem to venture and here's some photo's of the buildings. Pingyao looks like it's actually quite a poor town despite the barrage of tourists. This is the "real" side of the town and well worth a visit to get some contrast to that of the main tourist areas. Some of the buildings look very dilapidated and in need of some urgent repair.
The Temple of the City of God
by Paul2001
The Temple of the City of God is actually three Daoist temples housed in one huge temple complex. Together they are considered to be one of the best preserved temples in China. The first temple that you come to as you pass through the complexes southern archway, is the actual Temple of the City of God or Chenghuang Miao. This is a large, austere set of three buildings was where important legal and civil decisions were made. The other two temples are the Caishen Temple and the Zaojun Temple. This latter temple is considered the Kitchen Temple because it is dedicated to cooking.
The temple is open from 8am to 7pm.
Puesta del sol / Sunset
by elpariente
Si tienes suerte con el tiempo , ve a ver la puesta de sol desde la puerta del este .
Tiene una vista muy buena , sobre todo cuando el último sol pega en los tejados y se pueden hacer buenas fotos
If you are lucky with the weather go to see the sunset from the East door .
It has great views, especially when the last sun is on the roofs and besides you can take good pictures
Muros pantallas / Screen walls / "Yingbi"
by elpariente
In Pingyao could not miss the screen walls at the entrance of the houses to protect it from the evil spirits, and passersby peepers and to aloud the visitors to tidy up their dress before entering the homes
We saw a display of nine dragons, similar to the Datong , although somewhat smaller and other screen walls in houses and other buildings
Hui Wu Lin Martial Arts Museum.
by albaaust
Pingyao happened to be in the right geographical spot, and as the local people excelled in martial arts, they were the ideal ones to protect transport of money.
This museum is next to Ri Sheng Chang and includes exhibits of some of the weapons and the culture associated with the armed escort agencies.
