Hi Does anyone know if there are any bus or train from Luoyang to Pingyao?
How much, how long is the journey, I know there is a bus from Luoyang to Taiyuan but does it passed Pingyao?

I don't think there's any direct bus from Luoyang to Pingyao, but you can transfer in Taiyuan. It's not a long trip from Taiyuan to Pingyao (~2hrs), and there are tons of buses and trains running between them.
Take the train from Luoyang to Houma. Another train from Houma to Taiyuan will stop in Pingyao.
Alternatively you could take the bus to Linfen and then transfer to Pingyao.
Both of these routes avoid going all the way north to Taiyuan first and then heading south.

After posting I did some searching and found an interesting train ride from Luoyang to Pingyao, can you please confirm if we can get this?

If travelling during winter a hot water bottle!! You'll need a portable reading light as we found that most lights connected to the top bunk in the train cabin did not work.
As well, we found that most bedside lights were very weak.
Torch to take along as as it gets dark exhibits are not lit.
You could walk to the various sites or catch an electric car. For us the better option was hiring a bike. This way we could meander our way through the narrow streets .We hired bikes with locks from a lovely lady at 30 Cheng Huang Temple Street for 10 Yuan each for a day with a 100 Yuan deposit.
Built in the Northern Song Dynasty(960 - 1127), the Temple of the City God in Pingyao is a must for visitors who attempt to explore the ancient cultural and religious background of this city.
The statues in the halls are very interesting and colorful.
This was an amazing place. It just seemed to go on forever and we could have spent a half day here.
The main building Dacheng Hall was repaired by Emperor Jindading (1163) and is the oldest existing Confucian temple in China today. There are 87 sculptures of Confucius and his disciples on the site which is the largest number in any temple.
It also has an exhibition of the history of Chinese examinations.
At the northern end of the Confuican Temple complex, is this opera stage. Luckily, there was a performance happening when I visited with two actors on stage singing opera to a packed crowd who seemed more content on eating lunch than watching the performance!
