Zhengjia Hostel is in an 200 years old courtyard building. In the front is the restaurant, which serves nice local and Western food.
The rooms are around the courtyard, where in summer you can sit and have a beer.
The girls working here are very nice, but a bit childish and their English is poor.
When you arrive by train in early morning, there will be somebody at the station to meet you and bring you to the hostel by electro-car
Unique Quality: If want to make a trainreservation, make sure that Bob the owner is the one you speak to, then you can be sure, that your wishes will be understood.
The rooms have aircondition/heating and a bathroom with shower, which has hot water 24 hours. Wireless internet access in the restaurant and in some of the rooms free of charge.
Directions: Near the old city tower at Yamen Street
This friendly hostel is located very near to the Ting Yu Building that crosses the main east-west road near the Ancient Government Building, so it's right in the heart of the old town. The staff here are very nice and welcoming and the place is very traditional with buildings set around a courtyard. My room had a traditional Chinese razed bed that was huge - large enough for three people! The room wasn't all that large, mainly due to the size of the bed taking up most of the room but it was quite fun. I had all the mod-cons such as a large TV and hot-water shower etc but nowhere to hang my clothes, so I laid everything out at one end of the bed as it was so large. The hostel includes free internet and a pool table plus they also do some good food. Great stuff and everything that a hostel should be. My single room cost RMB140.
