Chengdu

Chengdu is the capital of "Heavenly State" (Tian Fu Zhi Guo), habitat of giant pandas and city of cotton-rose hibiscus.
Located in the west of Sichuan Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain, Chengdu covers a total area of 12.3 thousand square kilometres (4,749 square miles) with a population of over 11 million.
Wenshu Temple
by mishkah
I actually wandered in here by accident, looking for my accommodation (which was right next door).
Wenshu Temple is one of "the" sights of Chengdu but I didn't find it to be overly crowded as I'd thought it might be. Y5 entry, and another Y20 getting away from the panhandlers that bustled up as soon as they saw me (hey, it's the price of a quiet life so I never mind), the temple is supposedly one of the oldest in China but doesn't actually have all that much in it that's on public view.
Great vegetarian restaurant, and interesting monks' quarters (including one room I was pretty sure I was not supposed to be in - I could tell this by the monk I walked in on getting changed! I'm very observant like that.)
Leshan Giant Buddha
by Green_Frog
At the base of the buddha it's said that an entire family (probably a Chinese family of 3!!!) can enjoy a picnic on his big toe nail.... that's how big he is - the photos don't really justify his size.
Yangtze River Cruise
by cheapskate
Just one of the beautiful scenaries along the cruise... :)
this picture was taken when we were rowing on a small wooden boat along one of the 'small' tributaries of the Yangtze River.
I took this photo on the same small boat ride. These guys are really really strong. And the string that their pulling (attached to our boat) is made out of rattan (i think).
They use to operate naked but most tourists aren't used to it so now they wear clothes. But even so, you'd notice that they still wear very little (ie very short shorts). This is to prevernt friction or abrasion between the skin and the water.
It was pretty foggy during the whole cruise along the Yangtze and this was the best shot i could take of a sunset. :)
