Travel Tips for Chengdu
Experience of being spice up
by maysue about Any hotpot restaurants around Chengdu
Remember the Spice Girls? Well those girls can't beat this Chengdu hotpot. I tried a spoonful of it and boy, it was definitely a mind-blowing experience that leaves my tongue and gum numb for half an hour before it comes to live again. Anything I eat at that time seems to be tasteless for awhile. I think it's a good idea to have this HOTPOT before one wants to visit the dentist for tooth extraction! At least, your gums are numb before the extraction and it saves you some money for the anaesthetic too. Ha! Ha! Ha! P/S: Drink milk or soya bean drink to sooth the burn in your mouth; please don't try with gassy, soft drinks - you'll make it worse! Better still, make sure you have the Fire Dept. phone number in hand when you want to put out the 'fire' in your mouth.
Pavilion of Six
by Willettsworld
This pavilion was originally built in the 22nd year of the reign of Emperor Jiaqing in 1817. It used to be a wooden structure and used for garden decoration. In 1873, the ninth master abbot Sengwu Xiufu rebuilt it and added a small tablet of "Pavilion of Six" on the pavilion. "Six" is a common Buddhist numeral suggesting the "six senses", "six gunas", "six thoughts", "six characteristics" and "six metaphors".
Green Ram Temple - Part 1
by Willettsworld
The Green Ram Temple, otherwise known as Qingyang Temple, is one of the most famous Taoist temples in China. The temple was originally built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), a period when Taoism was flourishing. Most of the parts of the temple that remain in existence are restorations from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), including Sanqing Hall, Doulao Hall, Hunyuan Palace, the Eight Trigrams Pavilion, and Wuji Palace.
Why is the temple called Green Ram Temple? Well it all went back to a meeting between a Taoist high priest called Lao-tzu who was to meet a friend here. The friend arrived only to see a boy with two goats and so thought the boy was his friend the priest!
