Sam's back door hotel!
Again, if you read the hotel tip before this, you'll know all about this place. It is linked to the Rongcheng Hotel and has a backdoor arrangement with it. I stayed in the main hotel and not the hostel part, so can't comment on that. If you want to stay with the hostel don't approach the hotel reception, but go to the office next door.You'll see a bright blue and yellow sign saying 'Sam's Guesthouse'. There were several backpackers staying in the hostel rooms so Im sure they are fine. Go check them out! Sam however, is a very unhelpful guy. If it isn't going to make him any moeny, he will try as little as possible to help you!

An amazing resource in Chengdu
Sam's Guest House is not the most luxurious accomidation option in Chengdu but is by far the most friendly and usefull. The cheerfull staff at Sam's arranged special tours, drivers and translators to take me off the beaten path. Hiring a driver and translator for the day ran about $25 and was well worth it. Sam's is also a good source of information for travelers interested in visiting Tibet.
Unique Quality: Beautiful courtyard decorated with chinese antiques, central location.

Pros :
- Convenient location , near Post Office, Public Security Bureau, internet cabins, main shopping streets of Dongchenggen Jie, Renmin Zhonglu, Renmin Donglu, Renmin Nanlu and markets
- Private bathroom in the dorms which are of hotel standard as the wing was leased from a bigger hotel
Cons :
- As it is off on a side street, it can be a little difficult to track down
