Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Private Car Rental

by mission168

My wife and I will arrive at Jiu Huang airport at around noon. We intend to get a car with driver to take us to Huanglong and later to Jiuzhaigou hotel. How can we be sure that the driver is trust worthy to take care of our luggage?
What would be the fare roughly?

I don't think you ever can be. I would take a photo of the drivers card on the dash (if it is a taxi) and one of the luggage in the car and one of the registration plate. I always tried to take taxis in China and got a Fapiao (invoice) it costs you more but it will be insurance as it has the registration number and taxi company name on it. It has helped when I have left things in the taxi. If the driver knows you want an invoice he is less likely to do anything wrong as he will think you "have been around" and know the scams.

Thank you for your advice. Take a photo of the driver's card is a good idea.
Invoice will be issued only after payment when the journey is over, so it is not much help.

You could deposit your luggage at Hualong Hotel which is at the entrance of Huanglong. The fare was CNY20 in 2007. Maybe the fare is up now but I think the fare will not change much.

"I always tried to take taxis in China and got a Fapiao (invoice) it costs you more"
Why would it cost more for a receipt? This has never been the case.
Are you carrying diamonds or gold bars? I don't think drivers want your clothes. :P
In any case, you pay them after the whole day is done (though they might ask for part payment to cover expenses enroute, judge accordingly) so they're not likely to disappear with your luggage. In fact I've never encountered nor heard of any driver doing this.

Travel Tips for Jiuzhaigou

Jiuzhaigou = 9 stockade valley

by victorwkf

Jiuzhaigou means "9 stockade valley" in Chinese. According to my guide, the 9 stockade belongs to the Tibetan people who inhabited this place many years ago until today where they are still managing this world heritage site.

Carry a daypack within the park

by MikeySoft

Bring a daypack to hold your lunch and to carry a light jacket or sweater. I had a big one but is was not very full. A small one is better.

Mountains and street stalls in rural Sichuan

by aukahkay

Jiuzhaigou is 450 km north of Chengdu. If you go by bus, you will have to break the journey overnight, usually at a town called Maoxian. From Maoxian to Jiuzhaigou, the journey will take you through very remote areas of Sichuan, passing small hamlets, villages and disused coal mines amidst breathtaking mountains and lakes. The Qiang people live in these remote areas of Sichuan and they set up make-shift stalls along the mountain highway selling drinks and fruits to cater to tourists shuttling to and from Jiuzhaigou. For a small tip, you can ride on a mountain yak which was exactly what I did.

Autumn

by sylina

Autumn is the most splendid season of Jiuzhaigou. The colourful leaves and forests are reflected on the bright and clear lakes and fallen leaves are floating on the surface of water; the sky is vast and brightly blue. The most beautiful sceneries created by nature present themselves before your eyes.
