Scenic area question.....

by doyoucount

How long does it take (at a gentle stroll) to walk the Western trail (to Swan Lake) and the Eastern trail (to Long Lake & Five-colored Pool)?

If you were limited in time, are any of the trails more recommended than others?

Re: Scenic area question.....

by ellyse

Why walk? If you're in a hurry, take advantage of the in-park shuttle buses.

The two trails are both very long way but the Western trail has more scenic place (stop and walk and see the secne may take you half day for this trial). You could walk from Swan Lake to Nuorilang and take bus up to the Long Lake. (It may take you two hours to just walk up from Nuroilang to Long Lake.

If you only have one day, walk half day for the Western Trail, take bus to Long Lake, see the Five-colour pool, take bus to the Shuzheng village and then walk down for southern trail.

Travel Tips for Jiuzhaigou

Jiuzhaigou

by nepalgoods

The name " Jiu zhai gou" means "9 villages valley". The name comes from 9 Tibetan villages in the valley. Since 1991 Jiuzhaigou is UNESCO World Nature Heritage.

Jiuzhaigou is situated about 400 km northwest of Chengdu. There is an airport inSongpan, from where a 1,5 hours busride takes you to the park.

The landscape characteristics are high mountains (Ganzigonggai, 4558 m), 114 lakes, rivers and waterfalls.

Rare animals are living here: for example the Giant Panda or the Sichuan Takin, some kind of monkeys and more (I do not know the names in English). I did not see any of this wild animals.

I found a list of all the lakes, waterfalls and mountains in the internet.

Prayer everywhere

by kielorla

You will find alot of flag and big bell everywhere when you are in JiuZhai County. The flags have prayer script written it as the tibetian believe that the flag flap once means it pray one time. It is a clever way of using wind and water as the nature element to pray for the people and the land. The same for the bell, if you turn once mean you pray once for the people and land. These bells are put in the river using the water current as force to turn the bell.

You will see a lot of colourful flags, yellow means land, blue mean water, red mean sky ( If i remember correctly).

How to have the whole park to yourself

by mango5

Day 1. Be at the park entrance at 6:40 am. Be first in line to buy your ticket and endorse it with free computer ID photo for 2 days usage. Be the first through the turnstiles at 7am and the first off the bus at the most popular tourist spot Panda Lake or Panda Falls. Be the first to start walking northwards to Nuorilang Falls. You’ll start hitting a few groups of tourists, but it’s better than later in the day when you’ll be involved in a rugby scrum just to get a photo of the falls. At Nuorilang take a bus to Long Lake and Multicoloured Lake. Then bus back to Nuorilang and change to bus for Primeval Forest at the end of the park. Walk downhill from there to Panda Lake where you started in the morning, and call it a day. The crowds will be out in force by then.
Day 2 Be the first through the turnstiles again at 7am. Get off at Nuorilang Falls and walk back towards the park entrance - it was as though I had the entire park to myself. Only met 4 people coming the other way, but there must have been 10,000 about 20 minutes behind me. Bus back up to Long Lake and walk back towards Nuorilang along quiet walkways that not many frequent. That’s quite a long day… keep your eye on park closing time and last buses 5:30pm

Something to try to avoid the crowds

Something to try to avoid the crowds

Many people, including myself, enter the park in the morning and take the bus to the end, the farthest away from the entrance. Then see that other parts of the park.

This may be part of the reason it was so crowded during my visit in mid May 2006 even when it was not a Chinese holiday. Maybe I was in a moving crowd.

You may want to see the center part of the park first, around waterfall area. Then see the other part. Please leave a comment should you try this to let me know it helps to reduce the crowds as you visit the park.

Please rate this and others tips when you find them interesting, or useful, or you like the pictures. :)
