Emei and Leshan VS HaiLuoGou and Luding

by sylviakh

I realised that after visiting Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, people normally visit Emei and Leshan. I was wondering instead of there, why not HaiLuoGou and Luding?

Can anyone recommend which itinery I should follow? Thanks!

I have been to Leshan,Emeishan and Luding they are good place to visit while you are in Sechuan. From Chengdu take a bus to Leshan visit the giant Buddha and the thousand Buddha cave park (just adjacent to Giant Buddha). and take a buse to Emeishan. You can hike up from the entrance which I did in 2 days to top, or take a bus near the top and cable car to the top and walk up to the very top, to watch the sun rise. If you leave Emei shan early in the morning you may be able to pick up small bus to Luding (changed bus in one small town) otherwise you may have to go back to Chengdu to go to Luding to see the historic chain bridge.

I've been to Hailuogou (Luding), but not Emeishan and Leshan. The latter two are more famous and well-publicised, which I think is a major reason for their relative popularity.
I found Hailuogou to be a disappointment though, especially after Jiuzhaigou.

I am not sure what you are interested in.If you want to see lot of people,go Leshan and Emei. For natural beauty, try Hailuogou

Mt Emei and Leshan is much more famous than Hailougou and Luding. They have different styles and it depends on your interest. Mt Emei and Leshan are about Buddhism. Hailougou has nice natural views and Luding is a minority area.

Just like the former said,it all depends on your interest. If you like to Hailuogou and Luding instead of Emei and Leshan, that's ok. You know travel is a kind of entertainment, a way of being free. You should follow your heart, not the trend. If you are more interested in Hailuogou and Luding, just go ahead without any hesitation. Hailuogou is a natural reserve with beautiful langdscape, but to be honest, it's far from Jiuzhaigou after you back. Luding is a small county, and I don't know there are any famous attractions there, beside a Luding Bridge, which once the Red Army crossed during Ten-mile Lomg March. Mt E'mei and Leshan are quite wellknown in China. They are Buddhism, especially Mt.E'mei, one of four Buddhist mountains in China. There you can enjoy sunrise, sunset, sea of clouds, Buddha's halos and saint Lamps on Golden Summit.

Travel Tips for Jiuzhaigou

Toilet Woos

by kielorla

If you are going to China, the first thing will be gosh they have very bad reputation for their toilets, well you may be wrong. In JiuZhaoGou national Park, they have high technology toilet that change the plastic seat cover after using it. Making it very clean and hygiene. But that only apply to tourist area. For most of the area, the toilet still need alot of improvement. ( You should know what i mean by this).

Snow Mountain - Xue Feng

by imstress

In winter, the mountains of Jiuzhaigou will be fully covered with snow.

We were fortunate to see snow capped mountains when we were there in end Autumn and beginning of Winter.

When we reach the high altitude of Jiuzhaigou we managed to see some trees are covered with snow.

All the snow capped mountains and snow brings back memories of my South Island and Korea trip. I love to see snow.

Try to get away for the crowds of Jiuzhaigou

by MikeySoft

The valley is very beautiful but has thousands and thousand and thousand and thousand of Chinese tourist! Some of the trails are elbow to elbow with people and it is not even the May holiday week. I cannot imagine how crowed it is during China's holidays

Many are in tours groups are just following the guide's flag. The trails are well marked and sometime you can get off on a side trail not as crowded. I found a nice side trail along the cascading waterfalls where I eat a box lunch I had.

So, don't always follow the main path. The trails are well marked and you get a map with your ticket.

Please rate this and other tips when you find them interesting or useful, or like my pictures. :)

Aba Autonomous Prefecture

by aukahkay

The Aba Autonoomous Prefecture in the north of Sichuan province near the border with Gansu province is home to the minority Tibetan and Qiang ethnic groups. The terrain is extremely harsh with high mountains in excess of 3000m, severe winters and landslides during the rainy season. On the way to see the coloured terrace ponds in Hunaglong, the journey through the winding mountain roads and passes is spectacular - very Alpine indeed.
