Land travel between Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou

by manoftile

I plan to tour Jiuzhaigou this coming October.
Friend told me that the coach travel could take many long hours.
As two years ago, there was a serious earth quale happening in Chengdu area, I would like to know if the roads (if ever damaged during the big quake) are still in good condition?

Also, just recently , in the inland area of China, there has been serious and devastating flood and land/ mud slide, will these types of problems happen to the Jiuzhaigou area?

By the way, I am a Malaysia. Past travels were mostly to the Beijing and shanghai area. Also this is my first time posting question to VT.

Many thanks for the anticipated help.

Hi

I am living 50km north of chengdu and in the past few days the west of Chengdu was seriously effected by heavy rains and landslides as Jiuzhaigou is still in the north. The roads are completely rebuilt after the earthquake so no worries about the transportation. You can catch a bus from chengdu or an other option is going to guangyuan where you can catch frequent buses to Jiuzhaigou. There are daily from chengdu to Jiuzhaigou which can be booked at hotels or hostels travel desk.In October It will not be rainy i guess so good time enjoy trip.

You'd better not take bus to Jiuzhaigou now. In the middle of August, there was serious flood and land/mud slide on the road to Jiuzhaigou. Although the road condition is better now, I still suggest you taking airplane. BTW,the bus will takes you at least 8 hours.

There is no flood or land/mud slide in Jiuzhaigou area. Don't worry about it.

The road shoudl be good enough for bus. There is not so dangerous as you think. Everywhere in this world have some kind of danger. In another word, there is no definete safe place. So donn't worry too much as thousands of people visit JiuZhaiGou everyday.
The best time to visit JiuZhaiGou is around the end of September. It is the most beautiful season of JiuZhai. If you can choose the time, you'd better go to there at that time. It is amazing when these red and yellow leaves sets off the colorful water.

Check to see if the backpackers places like Sims are running buses there. Last september they were not due to the road damage from the earthquake. At the ebst of times it is a long journey by local bus

The Plank-road in the Scenic Area is 49km in all, of which 14km is from the entrance to Nuorilang, 17km from Nuorilang to the primitive forest and 18km from Nuorilang to Changhai Lake. You shall walk along those plank roads to sightsee all the wonderful scene, and it's skidproof with iron-chaim. walking at your pleasure... The improved plank-roads can lead you to sightsee all the gorgeous sceneries.
The iron-chaim could protect you from leg broken.

Tibetian dont eat fish

by kielorla

In Tibetian culture, when a person die, they have sky funeral, water funeral, ground funeral and tower funeral.

Sky funeral is they will cut the meat of the decrease and feed the vulture, they believe that if all your meat is being eaten, is a good sign that you will go to heaven, if not they will keep feeding the vulture till all the meat been eaten.

Water funeral is the decease is sinked into the deep water, therefore Tibetian do not eat fish as they believe that they will be eating ......

Both the above 2 methods is the most commonly used for commoners. For ground bury, mean that you die of diseases, therefore you need to be bury in ground.

As for tower funeral, is only for highly respectable monk. When the monk pass away, they will pray and process the body and will put into a tower.

Above information is gathered through verbally, i may not be able to remember clearly in detail, if there is any wrong information, please correct me.

Attentions for touring Jiuzhaigou

by sylina

Backpack. Bring jacket and overclothes and pay attention to keeping warm after Oct. Bring with you some constantly used medicines. You can buy film everywhere. It is forbidden to live in Jiuzhaigou ( protect the nature). All the hotels are out of the valley.

Explore one of the villages within Jiuzhaigou

by MikeySoft

I went to one of the villages within the park where there were no other tourists. It was near the Nuorilang bus stop so I don't know why there no one else was there.

It was nice getting away from the crowds. Some of the workers invited me to lunch.

Please rate this and other tips when you find them interesting or useful, or like my pictures. :)
