Tianjin is commonly perceived as the poor cousin of Beijing. This is most unfortunate.
Though it remains mostly in the Shadows of Beijing, Tianjin is not without charms of its own.
For one, it has a rich heritage of European architecture from its colonial past, and also is home of the famous Gou Bi Lu buns.
Yangliuqing town in its suburb is also well known in Chinese history as the home of New Year painting in its namesake style.
