Tianjin,a Magical city

by antonycao

"Ancient Chinese Tianjin"

Tianjin, located 120 kilometers away from Beijing, is the 3rd largest city of 600 years history in China. In the ancient times, Tianjin was a little port for the emperor, and a place where the army quartered at. About 200 years ago, during the Qing Dynasty, Tianjin turned to a commercial city. After the Opium War against the western world, Tianjin was opened as a trade center, was the second biggest city in China for quite a long time.
The old urban area has a many old places of interest, which are originally Chinese ancient houses, including residential buildings, bell towers, theaters, temples, shops etc.
In the picture you can see the 600-year old bell tower, the bell of which will be rung during the traditional festivals and sometimes fire hazards. Now the area has become a place of interest, in which you can buy ancient and exotic handicrafts and souvenirs.

"European influence on the city"

As said in the last chapter, Tianjin was opened as a trade port in the 1900's, so part of the city was given to the western countries as the colonies, so Tianjin became a semi-colony. It is a shameful period for the citizens, but now the area has been protected because there are so many marvels in the neighborhood.
First of all, the small district contains many style of the buildings, French, German, Italian, British, Russian, Belgic,Austria-Hungarian, American, Japanese...
Secondly, many of them were not built following the normal ways, some are Chinese-western, some are French-British...
Thirdly, many famous people were living in the place, including the American former President Herbert. C. Hoover, Chinese innovationist Liang Qichao, Sun Yestin( Sun Zhongshan) etc.
So it's considered as the treasure of the city.

"the Modern Tianjin"

The new area of the city is expanding, which includes: the Lakeside living area call southern Meijiang, the olympics competition area for the 2008, the Central Business District in which many skyscrapers and plazas located, the Finance Street on which many banks and securities companies located.
In the pic you can see the Tianjin Museum on the left , it lies in the bigges square, Milkway Square, in Tianjin
