I have heard, that the famous Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar is going to be demolished. I found nothing about that in Internet, but it seems to be a constant rumour. Does anybody know more about tis?

It is a famouse cultural relics!I don't think it will be demolished...Just last week (Jul 10), Jumah, it is said that there are almost 3000 persons to do worship.
It's just a rumor, they cannot destroy it.Don't listen to media.
Hmm, rumours will be rumours. I really doubt it will be demolished. That will only worsen ethnic relations in the region.
Havnt heard about the mosque but there are plans to rebuild the old part of Kashgar...check out www.danwei.org. Since having published the article the website (comanding several million hits a day) has frozen or has been blocked.
Right, rumour! I found sometimes the media just close their eyes and tell our what they planed in mind but not the truth! Anyway, the Mosque is still there in good state!
In a country were you will never know the truth...i guess rumours are all you can go by :) Lets hope to God..for the sake of my own safety that the mosque is not demolished.

hi ,i occasionally alternated at Kashgar,and have spent one there,i luckly found found Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar is open,everything is normal ,few people ,might because in winter.
The Sunday market happens every day. The only thing different on Sunday is the livestock.
In my opinion, Kashgar has become too easy for westerners to get to. It's become corrupted by the tourism industry. Those going to see authenticity won't be disappointed though. Just expect to see lots of Lonely Planet kids hanging around.
Xinjiang is a mainly Muslim Province in China. Specially in Kashgar I saw many lively mosques. Men are going for prayer into the small neighborhood mosques. And sometime you can hear the faint sound of the muezzin calling people for prayer.
Before you enter a mosque, you should take off your shoes!
IN many Muslim countries women use to wear veils to cover their hair or even their face. Sometimes I have th eimpression this custom becomes more popular with Muslimas in Germany. But in Kashgar I found, that less and less women are wearing veils. Compared with 1992 you won't see that many women with veils in Kashgar.
I cannot imagine that any woman likes to wear this ugly brown veil, which is popular in Kashgar.
The best thing about Kashgar is it is probably one of the most preserved still 'living' medieval cities. When you walk around the mud-brick and timber Uyghur houses/neighborhoods, you really get a feeling like you're still in the 14th century. It's like living time-travel.
The Largest mosque in Kashgar, and probably china. Simplly designed and very functional, the Id Kah mosque is smack in the middle of town. You can go in to visit and even enter the prayer hall, as long as you take off your shoes. The entrance fee is 10 yuan (about $1.25), and it's an interesting half hour or so.
