In ancient times Yili River Valley and Yisaike Lake lay in the hinterland of the Tianshan Mountains. It was the traffic fort to different directions of the Tianshan Moutains. Yili River Valley directly connected to the north road of the Tianshan Mountain and Tianshan road of the hinterland of the Tianshan Mountain. They formed a traffic route to all directions by using the mountain passes and river mouths and natural geography. Among them, the Taleqidaban in the Fruit channel, Dennouletai in Yining County, Nalatedaban in Xinjiang and Muzaerte in Xiata are famous mountain passes. The main line of the silk Road in Yili started from the north road of the northern mountain, going by the Fruit channel, the old city Alimali in Huocheng county, crossing YiLi River in the southwest and going by Ketemian Mountain of Kazakhstan, Yiseike Lake in the republic of Uzbekistan and going through the Valley of Chu River and going out in the west and other branches were the same. Gongyue City, Shuanghe City of Tang Dynasty, Alimali City, Yili city of Yuan Dynasty, were the places of strategic importance.
