Yili River
The Ily or Yili River is the main lifeline in this far western area of Xinjiang. The whole region is called after this river. The name of Yili got from a river long ago. In Han Dynasty, it was called Xuanlei and YiLie. In Tang Dynasty, it was called "YiLi", and also called DIDI River. In Yuan Dynasty it was called YiLi, original sound "Yila". In Qianlun's years of Qin Dynasty, it was named "YiLi".
Ily River is about 1.230 km long. In China, its length is 442 kilometers. YiLi River consists of three branches:Tekesi River, Gongneisi River and Kashi River flowing fron the east to the west. It comes from the Tianshan Mountains, flows to the west (Kasachstan) and ends there in Lake Balkhasch.
The Yili River is about 16km south of Yining.
