Woul NOT recommend
Horrible stay; the staff was extremely rude & helpless, never smiled (only when we walked in before the check-in), nor greeted us when we left.
We asked for information and they just tried to sell us their package tours, lying to us about the info we asked (we found out later).
The rooms aren't clean.
They said there was warm water, but actually it was warm only for 5 minutes then was freezing.
When we asked for somethin (toilet paper or a clean towel, or why there wasn't hot water), they would reply with an annoyed look and annoying behaviour.
Yunnan was a great experience, people are always very nice, in every place we went.
The only unpleasant people we met was the staff in Tibetan Lodge. I therefore do NOT recommend this place.

Hostel in Dali
Very popular among backpackers Tibetan Lodge in Dali offers nice and clean rooms with small bathroom. Hostel is centrally located, has quite helpful staf, free (but slow!) internet, bike rental. Double room - 80 RMB.

Nice hostel where to stay in Dali
This is a guesthouse off the main street, but still very close to Foreigner's street and all the bars and restaurants.
Friendly staff who speaks good English.
Free internet. Hot shower. Bar inside with a GOOD coffee (compared to standard chinese fashion), good cakes and QUICK service.
Reasonably clean, with tiny rooms though. Room available with private toilet at 100 yuan per room (price in summer 2005)
