Golden Elephant: Cheap Standard Hotel

I wanted somewhere prebooked, and did this one via the Forest Cafe Website (www.forest-cafe.org). The hotel I'd asked for was full, so they emailed back this one for 100Y. I also printed out a map of Jinghong from the forest cafe website and 'Please take me to forest cafe' written in Chinese from the website (yep, I'm a very organised person).

When I arrived, I went to forest, they wrote down the address in Chinese, and I was taxied there (5Y)

It's an absolutely standard mid-range hotel, like millions of others. However, the manager speaks English (staff don't, but they phone him and he translates), the bed is comfy, place quiet, western toilet and big window. For 100Y it's pretty decent.

Wanli Dai Style Guest House: Traditional Dai Guest House

They offer basic conditions in clean, quiet and comfortable rooms.
Laundry service available for a cheap price.

Restaurant is good and both Chinese and Western food are available.

My room: My room

This is the room I stayed cost 50 yuan for two person with bathroom attached, super cheap and clean with nice window view and good location, in the middle of city. Walkable to any places, what else you ask. But you don't want to know the name, reason was they don't have English, it was only in Chinese, no point you need it. The location is along the main street where the bus station is, nearby and easy to notice. If you need to ask peoples, just look for a decent shop owner, ask for 'Bing Guan' which is hotel in Chinese. Noticed the Bing is actually old Roman pronunciation and you should NOT say Bing, it is Ping and Guan is Kuan. Confused not?

Alien's hotel: Alien's hotel

The hotel I stayed cost 60yuan for two beds with bathroom attached, clean, good condition. 80 yuan for 3 beds. I saw at least 4 hotels for Aliens or foreigners, not all hotels can accept foreigners, be warned.

Dai Garden Building: Dai style backpackers inn

Simple. Get a feeling of Dai style village housing. The hut smells of country (don't get me wrong, it's a pleasant smell).

Mosquito net provided.

Simple clean bed.

RMB 25 per person.

Can see the mother of the inn grows a lot of local herbs including:

1) lemon grass
2) chan-hong
3) ginger
4) turmeric
5) mint
6) spring onion

Xishuangbanna Sightseeing Hotel: Big glass and tile hotel

Didn't stay. Looked at room. Looked in good condition.
Hotel in central location.
Owned by China Yunnan Airlines (now China Eastern).
Usual China 4-star facilities.

Probably better value than Tai Garden, but probably not as good value as Crown Hotel.

Hotel is ugleeeeeeeeeeee!

Crown Hotel: Good value, Y200 per night

Good value, 3-star. Decent rooms and bathroom. If you have older children, you can get a suite connecting to a standard room for Y600.
The restaurant quality is OK (Chinese only, no English menu).
The pool looks good in the photos but is squashed up against some horrible buildings, has broken furniture littered around, and the water looks suspect. (The pool at the Golden Banna Hotel across the road is good though).
The rooms are in concrete and blue glass villas, each containing about twelve rooms on 2 floors.
Good showers!
Very little English spoken.
They will meet you at the airport.

Set in gardens, so a bit of space.

A: "When I was there it took a small 12 hours but then again it was 5 or six years ago. So should be possible by now. Good coaches available (sleepers and so..) a bit used.;..."
