Getting good directions
by honurox
The best way is to make sure you know where you going before you set off, take the time to study your map. Once you leave the safety of your room/hotel/hostel, you kind of on your own. I have spent 1 whole day looking for a shop (there was a map the back of the business card..that was not correct) I was in the general vicinity, but every person I ask pointed me in the wrong direction ( even the police). It was not they were trying to steer me on the wrong direction, but they had no idea too. After walking about 10 miles I went home. found out the address, and then used a "correct map" To find out where it was. You can buy these maps just about any place for 3 RMB. There are Chinese/English and also have the bus routs.
You will amazed, like you have some sort of magnetic power. By just standing in one spot looking at an open map, there will be many people who will stop and try to help you. Most people will come up out of curiosity, or some people see a foreigner and want to practice English, but for the most part it seems (in the city area at least) want to help you find your way. But becarful or you'll end up lost walking around for 6 hours looking for the place to fix my camera
Don't touch aboriginal women's heads
by Chitan
It means you love the girl and want to marry her. In that way, you have to stay there for three years and work for her. After three years, if she was satisfied with you, she would work for you; otherwise you would be jilted.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
by Sharrie
There are basically 2 ways to experience the JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN:
1) From Snow Flower Village, take the cable-car ride up to the glacier that sits almost at the top of the mountain. (That's 4406 m / 14 500 ft!). It costs about RMB 110. Here you can stand next to the ice-glacier & enjoy the ultimate (lack of oxygen, lol...)! Yes, you can rent the mini-oxygen tanks as well if you are afraid of altitude sickness.
2) For those who just want a more relaxing journey, take the ski-lift (10 mins. ride) up to Spruce Plank Walkway & enjoy the 30-min walk through the forest where it'll eventually open up into a vast meadow, the Spruce Meadown. I enjoyed the walk through the forest very much. The air is clean, the forest is tranquil & the sunlight feels great! Just a different experience... nice :)
The famous noodles of Yunnan
by victorwkf
When in Yunnan and Kunming, you must try the famous noodle "Guo Qiao Mi Xian" which means "crossing the bridge noodles". The noodles and ingredients come seperated with the hot soup. When ready, you put the noodles and ingredients into the soup, which will cook the noodles instantly.
Authentic Kunming flavour - spicy vege salad
by hooiluangoh about YI DE RESTAURANT
Very busy. So busy that customers are usually ignored. But the crowd that dine there don't seem to mind at all. This salad has a oily and spicy sauce, which is quite flavoursome. It consists of 3 things:
1) Er Gen - only found here in Kunming and not anywhere else. Takes a while to fall in love. Or you'll never like it. Said to have "cooling" property.
2)Green pea cake/jelly - this is very firm. Goes well when dipped in the salad sauce.
3) Cucumber - my favourite.
