Newstands

All kinds of chinese magazines and newspapers are available.
One thing about newspapers here is it is not like what we are familiar with at home, ie a newspaper with various sections: sports, movies, local news, international etc.
Over here, there is a paper for the sole purpose of TV programmes, for there are tens of TV programs available on TV.
And a special paper for PCs, another for sports. They sell Chinese national geographics. About RMB 14 I think. This is a great magazine to read (if you read chinese) and the photos are superb.
Shangri-La
by xiquinho
The Zhongdian County was renamed Shangri-La in early 2002. Surrounded by Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet, it is the highest point in Yunnan Province. It is a place of natural beauty with mineral lakes and snow-capped mountains. One can see easily see why it is deserving of the name "Shangri-La" from the English novel "The Lost Horizon".

Authentic Japanese at Harbour Plaza Hotel
by hooiluangoh about Miyako at Harbour Plaza Hotel
This a high-class japanese deco restaurant. Five-star ratings. There are also teppanyaki rooms available. In the main dining hall, you find a giant round aquarium which houses goldfish. The trick to this is the aquarium itself is only about 6 inches thick and thus hollow in the middle. It's a beautiful view nonetheless. Sashimi set lunch. RMB110 + 15%. It is a large serving, and absolutely worth the money.
This includes salmon, fatty tuna, octopus, and various other seafood.
Stone Forest (Shilin)
by kpyam2000
About 120 km south-east of Kunming. Take one of the mini buses from Kunming's long distance bus station for RMB 15 (one way). Ride takes approximately an hour++, but be prepared for detours to tourist traps cum toilet stops and temples, whilst putting up with rude & obnoxious bus drivers, and people who argue a lot :).
Entry Fee to Stone Forest = RMB 80 (rip-off in my opinion).
Rating = 3.5 out of 5
