Ni hao Mark,
me again. All the English Corners I ever knew of in Kunming happened on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll ask a Chinese friend in Kunming if he knows one suitable for your dates but he's travelling these days so not sure I can get back to you in time. I'll try! Cheers.

Travel Tips for Kunming

A bottle of coke for RMB 1 !!

by hooiluangoh

I was so used to cans of coke until I stumbled upon glass bottles of them in Kunming.

They are available at newstands. After a whole day's walk, it's nice to have one opened for you and drink it all at the same place so that the bottle can be returned to the vendor (yes, they sell only the drink, not the bottle) The thing is Kunming has such a cool weather I normally missed a cup of hot tea when I am tired, and not a bottle of iced-cold coke.

...But this is not true, Kunming is HOT in June.

Moslem restaurant

by pratimadivgi

We went to this Moslem restaurant, where the owner tried to shoo us away because he didn't have an English menu! But we stayed on the steps till they accepted us in. And our preseverance paid off. Very nice food.. unless you know a smatter of mandarin you may have to order dishes by the meat name (chicken, duck, fish) or point to something interesting at someone else's table. Bit of a food adventure but totally worth it.

Where: From New Era Hotel entrance keep walking straight, go beyond the photo shops, and its one of the restaurants on the left hand side. All the waiters wear traditional Muslim caps. You can't miss it

Long Distance Bus Terminal

by vigi

There are 2 long distance bus terminals in Kunming. This Zhong-Be Station run buses to Dali and other Yunnan places, departing hourly. Tickets available at the station, or can be bought at hotel or travel agencies at the same price. Some agencies provide free transfer / pick up at the hotel.

(North?) Korean Fare

by hooiluangoh about A-ri-rang

Tucked in where Wen Hua Xiang makes a 90 degrees turn, the restaurant's food is economical, and taste is authentic. Family setting. A must to visit if you missed korean food.

The restaurant also serves korean BBQ, pancakes, soups, rice and other typical korean fares.

The owner looks Korean although he speaks fluent mandarin, and has a pleasant disposition: an "oriental" gentleman.

The menu is in chinese. Try the Kimchi Chigae (pao cai tang). It comes complete with rice, and several entree made of cucumbers, turnips, etc, which is typical of a korean restaurant.
Cost : RMB10

The duen-jang chigae (RMB10) and the stir-fry cuttlefish (RMB20) are also worth a try.

Cuihu Park

by victorwkf

Cuihu Park is a beautiful area of lakes and gardens in the heart of the city, both popular with the locals and tourists. This is lke an oasis in the urban city. During Nov to Dec every year, thousands of seagulls migrate to the lakes in the garden to escape the winter of the north. You can buy bread and feed the seagulls.
