This hotel is large and high building near train and long distance bus station. It's one of those places which seems fine outside but once you get in the room there's terrible stink of mold and toilet in room, floor and walls are dirty and there are cigarettes burns everwhere. If we weren't so tired and sleepless after a ride on the train (ha-ha, no seat when we got to train, it was completely full everywhere and it was our 12 hrs long journey on our bags) we would check out. We were there in January and despite the cold we prefered to have windows open.
We paid 160 RMB. A way too much for that quality of rooms.
I was trying to find the Kunming Youth Hostel near the Green Lake Park and ended up here as the hostel had moved location. It's only a fairly small hotel but the room was nicely decorated if a little small and the staff were very friendly despite not speaking any English at all. The room didn't have a/c or even a ceiling fan but was still fairly cool but it did have a nice shower. Everything was nice and clean and cost RMB160.
A nice enough hotel, the staff was friendly and helpful (not to mention patient) with the foreigners trying to find out how to get a bus to who-knows-where. They have nice, clean rooms, western style, with a full tub in the bathroom. Slippery!
The restaurant serves a pretty good breakfast. Get the noodles!
The room is much nicer, and I paid only RMB 160 (Sept 05). The reception however may not be able to speak english (at the time when I was there) - So mandarin is how I got things sorted.
But no worries, just hand them the passport, sign an autograph (forms) and you'll be on your way to the room..
Onl old style goverment run hotel, but the location is good, and the rooms are around 350 RMB a night. Used to be named "Nuculeus Indusry green lake hotel, their old logo 9at atom sign) is covered up with a stick of an image of a seagulls (seagulls are better than atoms?)
Clean room, hard bed, stff is kind of friendly
I have stayed twice in this hotel, once in June for 4 nights, and again in September while I was looking for an apartment. It cost the 2 of us Y150 per night including buffet breakfast, and it is a good 2 star hotel with air conditioning as well as a full western bathroom. It is very close to Yunnan, and Yunnan Normal Universities, as well as many good little restaurants, and shops, and having differently routed bus stops nearby, cinema, and (if you must!),American fast food and coffee shops.
It is convenient to universities, transport, shops, restaurants, and western hangouts. They also take Amex, Visa, and Mastercard, and it has individually controlled airconditioning.
I stayed in a double room with a shared bathroom. The showers were dirty. The room wasn't so great either. The toilets were the worst. I don't expect super clean in China. I don't require western thrones instead of squat toilets. I do like doors, and this place didn't have them.
You didn't get a key. When you returned to your room someone would let you in. This is if you could find them. After 11pm they were hard to find.
In the building there were travel agents, which was of some convenience.
Mostly the hotel was in an inconvient place.
Don't go. Cameillia is 30 Y / night (versus 25 Y / night here) and it is much nicer.
This hotel is not mentioned in any travel guides, but I found it walking around green lake park, because I wanted to stay in this area (beautiful park, nice cafes around Yunnan university). Got a rate of 150 Yuan, large single bed, bath room with shower and western type toilet. At this price, don't expect fancy facilities or fluently english speaking staff.
The room is surprisingly nice and furnished with taste! Large white walls, stucco, art deco lamps, golden curtains, very sweet.
This is one of the tallest best and most modern 5 star hotel in Kunming, and it is conveniently located in the city along the major Beijing Road. The hotel is also located very near to the airport and railway station.
Cost (November 2003)
$300 per night for a double bed room
$270 per night for a single bed room
Walking distance (5 min) to Kundu night spot.
A few bus stops to City Center (Cin Ma Bi Ji).
