how to get from Lijiang to Guilin

by piglet44

Is the only way to get to Guilin to fly from Lijiang to Kunming and then from KM to Guilin? it seems to be pretty complicated. Has anyone done this trip? thank you

Yes, you'll have to transit in Kunming, whichever way you go. Both legs can be done by overnight sleeper bus (Lijiang--Kunming) or overnight sleeper train (Kunming--Guilin), or flight. Which one you choose would be dependent on your budget and timing preferences.

I have done the same trip before. I suggest you take a flight because usually you could get very decent discouted fare either between Lijiang and Kunming or between Kunming and Guilin. My fare was 55% off.

thank you.Did you buy it after you arrived in Lijiang? is it difficult to get a flight as our trip is only 3 weeks? I thought we would get all the flights before we arrive in China....

Travel Tips for Lijiang

As blue as the Yunnan Sky II

by bpacker

Walking on a bridge, above the clouds at 4500m above sea level at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It's the closest to heaven as you can get when you look at the bright blue expanse of snowy white clouds.

Dayan Naxi Ancient Music

by Sharrie

DAYAN NAXI ANCIENT MUSIC in LIJIANG: An orchestra formed mainly by musicians over 60 years of age & a few are in fact in the 80s-95 range. Formed to preserve the cultural heritage of the Naxi tribe, this Taoist ritual music can be hard to adjust to in the beginning. But one gets used to the rhythm with time & it's quite an interesting cultural experience! If you have the chance, try it.

You'd also be surprised to find out that the orchestra has performed in many places out of China like the Scandinavia, U.K., Japan & U.S.A.

Music Quote from 'Book of Music':
'The beasts know only noises but not sounds; the common people know only sounds, but not music; it is only the gentlemen who are capable of knowing music. By examining the sounds, you will know the music, by examining the music, you will know the politics. Then you will know the way of government.'

Snow in Southern China

Yu Long Xue Shan - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

This is about the closest snow mountain to the Equator.

A cable car will take you up there to the snow spot. As the altitude is quite high (4000m above sea level), so those with altitude problems beware.

Naxi Family Guesthouse

by sunshinee

We stayed 2 nites in the guesthouse. The room was very basic and simple but once you think about that you are on a high mountain, the feeling was totally different. In the day time, there were many travellers stop by in the guesthouse to have lunch or rest and continued on their trekking. Some stayed overnite. The family was very nice people . Even tho they didnt speak much english, there was no problem for anyone to stay there. In the day time, we walked around the mountain to check out the nature and scenery. At nite time, everyone sat together after dinner chit chat and drank beer.

Black Dragon Pool Park - Moon Embracing Pavilion

by Willettsworld

First built in the 2nd year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1876), this pavilion was rebuilt following a fire in 1950. It is a triple-eaved building with a four meter high octagonal base and is some 20 meters high overall. Take time out and sit and just look out over the lake to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
