Wish to know the following distances:

Memory is a little fuzzy.
Lijiang to Dali Old City: by car 4-5 hours, no plane. Another 45 minutes to Xiaguang if that's where you are going.
Kunming to Lijiang: by plane 1 hour, by bus probably 6 hours plus.

Kunming -- Lijiang: overnight bus, or 1 hour flight. Or, overnight train to Dali and 3 hours bus.
Lijiang -- Dali: as answered above, 3 hours bus. No flight!

Less than 1 hour flight from Kunming to Lijiang, you may get 55% off discount for your air fare if you book in advance.
Take a flight to Lijiang and bus to Dali.

Travel Tips for Lijiang
Need a Guide?
by Bonobo2005
Some hikers might wonder if they should empoy a guide for the trek.
If you just plan to follow the most common route (as described here), you should be fine as goes for pathfinding, at least if you carry one of the maps I recommended in a previous tip.
In fact, the only confusing part is at the start to find the right trail but once you're on it it's hard to get lost. There are many Guest House signs painted on the rocks in red and yellow and moreover, orientation is easy: the river is always there, on your right hand side. And besides, trails are always ending up somewhere, whether it be a farm or a village.
A consideration to hire a guide as a single (female) hiker in off season, can be for safety reasons. I have no indications that crime is a concern here but I feel I should mention it nevertheless.
There are several off the beaten path options as diversions of the main route, one of the most interesting being a hike to reach over 5000+meter on Haba Snow mountain. For these kind of expeditions a guide is a must, for the simple reason that there are no signs!
Fly into Lijiang from Kunming or other cities
by darthmilmo
Just wanted to point out that if you are low on time like I was you can certainly fly from Kunming to Lijiang. Back in 2001 it cost under $50 USD.
Otherwise, it's best to go by bus since there are dirt cheap. A word on warning on night bed-buses, try to travel w/ a partner since you'll end up sharing a bed.
Take a picture on a yak
by stmlnyc
Take a picture of you on a yak for 10 RMB and if you want a short ride that'll be 20+ RMB more. Of course all this is negotiable depending on the amount of other tourists.
It sounds cheesy but the background scenery and the dressed up yak is worth it.
Tiger Leaping Gorge
by gigi_huang
It's one of the best places to do hiking in the world. Fascinating landscape and challenging path for trackers.
It takes two days if you track the whole valley.
3 hours from Li Jiang. Cute guest houses to stay in the mountain. A little bit dangerous.
Black Dragon Pool Park - Five Phoenix Pavilion
by Willettsworld
This pavilion is also named Payun Pavilion and was originally built at the Fuguo Temple 30km to the west in 1601 as a villa and family temple of the Mu chieftain. The pavilion was so called for the eave angles which are said to be in the form of five flying phoenixes.
