best hotel out of dayan town

exellent hotel in lijiang especcilly the villa rooms. 5 minutes from the old town, rmb 10 by taxi.

Unique Quality: 3-5 bedrooms villas, individual key card for each room of the villa; on site waitress from naxi prepares breakfast for guests.

Tallest Building in Lijiang

We only stayed for one night, but we were generally quite pleased with the hotel. It's a large, recently renovated hotel that is walking distance from the Old Town in Lijiang. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, bathrooms impressive and all but the service was probably close to a western 3-4 star standard. We didn't have time to take advantage of the facilities, but we had a lovely breakfast buffet (western and Chinese), so we know the food was good. The hotel had just reopened while we were there, and it still had some bugs to work out. But at least the staff was friendly, and they made an effort to meet our needs. I would recommend staying here to anyone who can afford the room rates. It's not exactly a charming place to stay, but it has the grandeur of a large city hotel, and it's in a great location.

By the way, the website doesn't always work, but you can find information on other sites if you look up Guanfang Hotel.

Unique Quality: The views down along the main street of Lijiang with Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background are gorgeous! And we were excited that we could easily walk from there to Old Town or Black Dragon Pools (a must-see).

5-Star Hotel

This is the only 5-star hotel in Lijiang located a 10min drive from Black Dragon Pool.

Unique Quality: It provides an excellent view of the city of Lijiang.

Modern

Only 5-star hotel in Lijiang.

It is about 5-10 minutes drive away from the Ancient Town of Dayan (taxi RMB 6).

Book online, the rate for a standard room including 2 breakfasts would be RMB 500. You can request a non-smoking floor (9th only) room and bed type: 2 single or 1 king.

A 2-story Naxi VIP courtyard type structure is at the back. Since the non-smoking room we booked was not available, we were put in this quiet courtyard. Free internet (with a computer) was provided in such room.

Lijiang - Last Visit in December 2002

I went to Lijiang on a 6-day trip through Yunnan province. The trip included stops in Dali and Kunming. This is the main entrance to the ancient town of Lijiang.

Lijiang is the home of the Naxi minority, descendents from Tibetan society. Here's a group of them chanting in the ancient part of town in Lijiang.

This is a glimpse of the ancient part of town. Note the water canals that sweep past entrances of old buildings. The crystal clear waters are used for the people's daily usage, including washing their clothes and dishes!

This is a tourist information centre near the main entrance.

This is one of two ropeways going up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Watch out for high altitude sickness!
