Piece of advice, please

by Mallyta

HI, I'm working in Hong Kong and really eager to visit Lijiang, but only have weekends available, does anybody know the cheapest way to get there?
Thanks in advance...

Hong Kong to Lijiang in 3 days?

by Confucius

I don't see how you can avoid the expensive flights if you only have a weekend in remote Yunnan province.
You need more time, maybe you should wait until the Chinese New Year holiday.
Even Yangshuo is a reach as a weekend destination from Hong Kong. Perhaps you should think about some place closer, like Zhaoqing.

I have been Lijiang a few days ago and it was beautiful there. Last time, I fly from Hong Kong to Lijiang via Kunming. If you are not going to Kunming, you can go to Guangzhou and get direct flight to Lijiang. You can check with the agent in China to see if there is discount on the normal fare.

The alternative way is to get the train and then by bus. Although you can save some time, it is very time consuming.

Travel Tips for Lijiang

Juego / Gambling

by elpariente

En los parques , en las calles ... siempre puedes ver gente jugando al mah-jong , damas o cualquier otro juego ya que son grandes aficionados al juego , para apostar o simplemente para pasar un buen rato con los amigos y vecinos

In the parks, the streets ... you may always see people playing mah-jong, checkers or any other game because they are big fans of the game, to gamble or just to have fun with friends and neighbours

Watch out for the "musicians"

by Willettsworld about Blue Papaya

This restaurant (on the left of the pic) is located near the watermill in the old town. The food here is very good. I had a chicken breast stuffed with ham and something else plus French fries and a beer for Y70. Watch out (or should that be listen out) for the numerous singers that come by around the restaurants. Some guy turned up with a guitar and was awful at both singing and playing (he only played one chord!). I took his guitar and played a few chords that I can still remember after about 25 years since I last played and started to sing Love Me Tender into his microphone, to the great amusement of some westerners at a nearby table, but I was still miles better than he was even with my cough!

One day in Su He Town

by jasmine_ding

There are many cafes and bars with unique styles in Su He Town. There are fewer people than in the Old Town. Make time and enjoy yourself in the yard of a cafe, drinking, reading and sleeping, like me.

I can remember the sweet dream under the warm sunshine of Su He Town.

See the emerald colored waters

by konniemario

On your way down from the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you can ask the driver to do a detour to a place called Bai Shui Shan Zhung (White Water Area). It's a very nice area with emerald colored waters created by the mineral deposits from the snowy mountains above. It looks very nice and serene, good opportunity to do some postcard perfect shots ;-) Entrance is free.

Old town, streams, lakes and mountains

by Willettsworld

Lijiang lies in the northern part of Yunnan province and is famous for its well preserved Old Town which was listed in the World Cultural Heritages by UNESCO in 1997. The Old Town was once the center of Lijiang and continues to maintain the original flavor of the local lifestyle, the typical groups of buildings and the profound cultural heritage of the region. The town has a history going back more than 800 years and was once a confluence for trade along the old tea horse road. The Old Town is famous for its orderly system of waterways and bridges and differs from other ancient Chinese cities in architecture, history and the culture of its traditional residents the Naxi people, whose music is performed by a world famous orchestra. All of this means that the town gets inundated with tourist - mostly hoards of Chinese tour parties, which means that you'll have to almost fight your way around. To escape this the surrounding area provides some beautiful scenery in the form of the Black Dragon Pool Park, Tiger Leaping Gorge and the easily visable Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Lijiang put the cherry on the cake for me whilst in Yunnan as the whole province is a must see when in China.
