Thats funny, i thought the reason of joining a forum was so one can ask questions about travelling!! As a matter of fact i did browse the net looking for flights and after about an hour of dead ends i thought I would innocently ask the question! So lasseq, in future, keep your brainless comments to yourself, and if you can't answer my simple question, don't bother to reply!

It was perfectly fine last year at that time (depending where you come from) but can get chilly in the evening. Most hotels of the cheaper kind will not have heating and it may be ridiculously cold during the night...

I went for last year's Spring Holiday, slightly later than this year's (when I am going again). The nights were cold, but the guest house we were in had electric blankets, also a hot shower. Wish I could remember its name! It was sunny and bright mostly, but up Jade Dragon Snow mountain, it quite suddenly went from sunny and bright to howling blizzard and back again. On the way there our taxi driver took us to a shop which rented out really warm coats, gloves, hats etc. Also sold bottles of oxygen (35RMB) not that I needed it, because I've been much higher than that.

Yesterday the government announced that train fares would rise 15-20% during the month on the holiday period. What a rip off!

Here's a useful site. Normally the price I pay is less than those given here:

Travel Tips for Lijiang

Conquer The Bends

by Bonobo2005

The toughest part of the trek is right here at the bends, although it is not at any serious altitude (around 2600m.) and still relatively easy to cope with by most hikers.

Nevertheless its long and steep and hot as you are unprotected from the sun. Best advise is to maintain a slow pace and keep going rather than rushing up which likely has to be paid off with some serious breaks to find new breath.

A rock marks the summit of this trek where you can buy a refreshment from the lady who runs a little stall. Views from here are superb!

From Lijiang to Qiaotou

by bpacker

If you intend to do the tiger leaping gorge, then go to qiaotou. It's the more popular starting point compared to da ju.

Ask your hotel owner to scribble down qiao tou (bridge head) and express bus stop for you on a piece of paper. Hand the instructions to the cab driver.

Alternatively if you speak Mandarin, just tell the driver you're heading for the bus stop to Qiao Tou.

Naxi Dongba Paper Workshop

by Willettsworld

Dongba paper is particularly used by the priest of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people to paint the Dongba scripts and portrait the gods. It was first created in the Tang dynasty (618-907). The skin of the Steuera Chamae Jasme is used as the main raw material and the main features of the paper is its thickness, rough fibres and toughness. If you walk down Xinhua Jie (the street with the river running down it) there is a place you can enter and watch it being made and used for various articles which can be bought.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Cable Car

by Willettsworld

When you arrive at the lower cable car, (at 3356m), you'll no doubt have to wait in another queue. The cable car costs Y170 which includes the bus journey from the visitor's centre. After buying my ticket at 11.22am, I finally got on the cable car at just before 2pm so expect a long wait. I reached the upper cable car station where the temperature is a bit chilly to say the least so bring warm clothing. A strong wind was really blowing a gale across from the highest peak which is about 5500m. I was at 4506m - the highest point I've ever been on land before. Chinese people were walking around in hired out thick jackets and carrying oxygen cans (like long squirty cream cans) around with them and taking big breathes out of them every now and again. I was told that there was no need for them as you only need oxygen if staying for half-a-day or overnight but not for 30-60 minutes.
