It's Beautiful to be Fat and Tanned
by bpacker
The Naxi/Tibetan idea of beauty is different from the rest of the world. While most of us think that having pasty white skin and an emanciapted body are hallmarks of beauty, the Naxi think that we're nuts. A typical Naxi Beauty is as plump as a dumpling and tanned as leather. And so are the men.
Yes, my husband actually loves this place since a man will not be slapped over here for saying that his wife looks fat in a dress. In fact, it's very flattering to call a young lady pang-jin-mei (fat gold sister). Same goes for the men. Fat Bastard* will not feel out of place over here since he'll be called pang-jin-ge(fat gold brother).
*Scottish lump of lard seen in "The Spy who Shagged Me".
What a name
by John195123 about Sexy Tractor
"Your Living Room in Lijiang" it says... With a name like this, it's gotta be interesting. I wasn't looking for westernized fare, so I didn't go in, assuming that's what it was. No great loss, I suppose, but oh well. The Sexy Tractor...

The Mountain

After staying 2 nites in the guesthouse, we were thinking to go back to Quitao and we started to walk, but after 5 mins we both decided we should continue the trekking because we didn't know if we would ever come back here again. So we started to walk back and we had our backpack as well, the first difficult one was the 28 bends. They called it 28 bends cos the name tells it all. It wasn't easy for us because we had our backpacks.
pleasant Lijiang

"millenial old town"
albeit generally touristy, its a pleasant surprise from the rest of China.
fish-filled clear glacial streams / canals criss-crossing the town, cobbled stone streets, two-storey architecture with intricate details, interesting knickknacks for sale, myriads of cuisines to choose from...overall, pleasant. could spend weeks just lazing around.
the area near the front gate is too touristy and always crowded. opt for the back streets were pace is much slower, atmosphere is serene and quiet.
