Travel Tips for Lijiang

Stroll around the Old Town away from the Center

by CGarnett

Most of the tourists tend to spend their time strolling in the very center of Old Town, near Square Market and the Water Wheel. Take the time to get out of the center and wander through the beautiful cobblestone sidestreets. We fell in love with the people and the culture as we quietly made our way "off the beaten" path.

Coffee Shop/Pizza

by John195123 about Still Don't know

Well-made, though sparse on toppings, this place has some good pizzas, served hot and not really greasy. If you are looking for Lavazza coffee, they also serve that. There are, of course, Chinese dishes, but why bother here? The pizzas are worth the trip, as far as Chinese pizzas are concerned. Hawaiian and Spicy Meatball (that's not the name, but it's what's on it) are good!

Black dragon pool - Early spring

by Angelife

This is a typical scenary that one will see when visit the black dragon pool. However, during different time of the year there are some differents in this beautiful scenary. This pic is taken during early spring when the snow at the Jade dragon snow mountain has not yet melted and trees with lot of branches but few green leaves... it gives a calm and quiet feeling. On the other hand, if you visit here during summer, then your pic will be "green" in colour ~

Baisha Frescoes

by vigi

The site of the frecoes is situated in Baisha Township 8km north of the seat of the Lijiang. The frescoes now existing include 53 groups in all, which are mainly distributed in the Liuli Palace, the Tabaoji Palace, the Dading Hall and the Dajue Palace, etc. Being works of the Ming Dynasty except some in the Dading Hall which were painted in the Qing Dynasty. The Ming period frecoes in the Liuli Palace and the Dabaoji Palace are major cultural relics under states rpotection.

The subject matters of the Baisha Frecoes are an intergration of Tibetan Buddhism, the Han region and Taoism and their artistic style is a trinity of the Tibetan, the Han and and Naxi paintings. These mural paintings with fine and smooth lines, gorgeous and steady colours, exact and vivid shapings as well as balanced and harmonious compositions, are rich in decorative charms and they not only take an important place in the history of the Chinesemural pintings but also to be brilliant gem of the world cultural heritages.

The place you can have a dream

"Temperature and transportation"

Lijiang is a small city of Yunnan Province in the southwest of China. Temperature is 5?Ž~28?Ž from winter to summer. Beacause it's in a highland, the sun is very strong even in the winter.
There are two ways to get there, by air or by bus. If you come from Kunming (the capital of Yunnan Province), it'll take you 9 hours in the bus.
Near the city, there are famous sightseeing such as Yulong Snowmountain, Lugu Lake and Tiger Jump Canyon. You can find partners from YHA or many cafe's board, then, deal with a local driver and go there(Don't pay all the money before the trip is finished). You can rent a bike to go to Lashi Hai and Suhe Town.

"Accomodation and food"

If you want to know the real Lijiang, choose a hostel, inn or YHA in Dayan Town (the Old Town of Lijiang). There are many choices for tourists, for a backpacker, a group of friends. The price from $3/per~$40/per. Not in pubilc days, people just pay $7 for a room (2 beds).

Besides, many hotels are suitable for families, couples and some people who want to have a comfortable and relax holiday in Lijiang.

Chinese food, pizza and French food can be found in the Old Town. Out of it, there is a market full of fruits and vegetablels for local. If you are permitted by the master of the accomodation, you can cook for yourself.

"People"

There are many bars and cafes in Dayan Town, beside water-ways, decorated with flowers. When the night comes, music, laugh and the sound of the water-way mix a dulcet song which you'll remember for a long time.

The most of local residents are kind and peaceful. You can ask for a help if there is something wrong. Give yourself a couple of days after traveling on the way, you can enjoy mild and warm time.
