Stayed here 7 - 9 November 2006. On arrival you will be asked to pay 100 yen key deposit. If you don't have the receipt on check out you will be told can't have the deposit back. Ask then to keep the key and you will find you CAN have the deposit back! The heating didn't work in our first room - engineers came fast - and when they couldn't solve the problem we were moved to another room. In November the evenings and mornings are cold. The heating comes on too late and goes off too early. The breakfast room is cold. The Old City is more than 800 years old but post the earthquake rennovations it has a Disneyland feel - it is not at all like a place people actually live - more like an attractive, sprawling, open air mall. So popular was the Old City with Chinese tourists that two years ago it was extended at the North and South ends. The Wangfu hotel is in the South end extension and only opened last year. It is quite a long walk to the real Old City. There are sufficient English speaking staff to help the others who can't. The design is very attractive. We would have preferred to stay in the real old city and if we visit Lijiang again that is what we will do. I am sure the WangFu hotel will put right the heating problems in time. The staff try hard and the service is good. Theme: HotelComparison: more expensive than average
