Yuan Yang Chen Family Hotel: Family-Run With a View

At a bend in the road is a bus station. On the down-hill side of the wall and a short way down a small side street, are two small hotels. The first one, ours, wasn't spotless and as breezy as reported, but was still quite a nice place to stay- mind the uneven stairs on the way up. With drinking water in the rooms, basic bathroom facilities (mostly in-room aside from a public shower at the end) with a squat toilet over which hangs the shower head, what I liked most was the view off the balcony, amidst the clothes hung out to dry. Even though you might only climb one floor to get to your room, the hotel is built on the side of a hill, evidenced by the rather long way down to the bottom of the central courtyard.

Maybe those who ran it were related to the Mr. Chen in Kunming who set us up with a driver. Maybe it's the one we wanted to go to...
