"No surprises" in Hangzhou
I have stayed at this location 3 or 4 times in the past 5 years, most recently 3 days in August 2010. Location in downtown Hangzhou is fairly central in the downtown business district, close to entertainment and West Lake. Rooms and common areas were well maintained. Staff generally better at English than the typical Chinese hotel of this caliber although there were a few lapses. (For example, the employee responsible for assisting with tourist attractions and travel had difficulty with what I considered simple questions; however, the nearby front desk staff were able to fill in.) Breakfast buffet was as expected - good American and Chinese selections.
I would recommend this property to Americans and others with limited or no Chinese language skills.
Unique Quality: Good central location in downtown Hangzhou.

Peace of mind
Had a wonderful stay when we first got here. Staff were very welcoming and hotel was modern and most importantly very clean.
Unique Quality: Got bonus points for having a very good western executive chef. I love my western food and was very happy to find that the hotel did not just serve typical "hotel food."

Holiday Inn Hangzhou
The Holiday Inn Hangzhou is an excellent hotel - the HI hotels are almost guaranteed good value for money in China.
Easy, pain-free check-in, good selection of restaurants, a pool, gym.....
The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, including TV with international channels, broadband internet connection (RMB 40 per day) and a big bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable (actually better than mine at home!!)
Good air-conditioning.

A great hotel in Hangzhou
I have stayed at this hotel a lot in the last few months and I love it. It has all the usual facilties you expect in a good hotel but the best thing for me are the people you meet, both guests and staff. There is a good bar on the 25th floor called Stocks Bar with live music provided by Grace and Rachelle from the Philipines.
There are several good retaurants western/Chinese/Japanese etc.
If all goes to plan I will return for 6weeks May/June....cant wait!
