The best part of my trip to Hangzhou was meeting Becky (VT member coral0317)... She lives in Hangzhou and offered to show me around the city during my travels there... Becky is an absolutely adorable girl, very pleasant company, and a great guide...! Meeting her added a touch of local flavor and hospitality that made my stay extra special...
Hangzhou in the Province Zhejiang
Hall of the big Boeddha Sakyamuni
A statue - 19meter height and made of wood
-sitting on a Lotus bed - symbol of pureness
The way of keeping his hand is also different and symbolic in China. The "Mudra" position of the hand of this Boeddha means "Peace"
This sitting statue is the oldest wooden statue in China
"row, row, row your boat"
the West Lake is well, pretty much like any other lake. its saving grace is that it offers distant views of prominent attractions in Hangzhou. and yes, the stories continue to threaten to drown out the listener.
"time for tea"
Hangzhou's West Lake Longjing tea is green gold. purported to have multiple health benefits, ("you can drink it, eat it, sleep on it and even use it as a face mask!") they're highly sought-after, hence they don't come cheap.
it tastes alright - a mild, gentle fragrance so subtle, insensitive tastebuds might miss it. but yeah, i'm buying into it's health hype. i mean, if drinking tea can lower your cholesterol, i'm all for it.
