What's the typical dress code for dance clubs and bars in hangzhou? I would like to pack as little as possible to leave room for bringing things home, but I want to make sure I have the correct attire for going out dancing/drinking in the evenings. Any tips on things that are considered inappropriate? Any suggestions are welcome.
I couldn't tell whether you are male or female, but generally, Chinese do not dress up very much. Young women may dress up prettily, but men usually don't dress up, although slacks are very popular. Dress codes are practically unheard of.
As a woman I'd avoid showing much bare skin. Chinese women don't dress overly sexily; they cover up even though fabrics may hug the skin tightly.
The Chinese are conservative dressers and goth, punk or similar styles of dressing that stand out will draw attention (which people who look visibly different to Chinese get anyway). Normal western clothing will not.
Thanks. I'm a female in my twenties. I figured the normal dress for clubs in china would be different from the often provacative "dress to impress" codes in the States. I definately don't want to wear anything offensive or that would give someone the wrong impression. I guess I have some wardrobe searching to do.
Interestingly, see-through clothes such as chiffon blouses are not considered revealing, so if you have that, with proper underwear it's fine.
I'd avoid low cut tops and very short skirts (well above the knee). Well at least I didn't feel comfortable in that, and as a blonde I got some attention anyway. Chinese women do not generally wear short skirts, skimpy tops or show cleavage.
Well, I think that Westerners in general are considered more promiscuous, but men won't touch you as men and women don't touch each other unless they know each other well. I didn't go out much myself, but I'd be surprised if you get indecent proposals.
Have fun!

Xiling Seal Club is a famous academic group of epigraphs and seal cutting study in China. It was first established in 1904 and became a formal organization in 1913. It has some tourist attractions such as the Bamboo Attic, the Cypress Patio, the Huayan Lection Pagoda and the Sizhao Loft. There is a "Stele for the Anniversary of the Death of Three Elders in Translation" in the Three Elders' Chamber, which can date back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, and was viewed as a treasure by archaeologists both at home and abroad.
