Shangri-La Hotel Hangzhou: Budget Shangri la...Ahaha
Satisfaction:

Stayed at the West Wing, which is to be avoided. The room is old and not up to Shangri La's standard. Plus points about the place. Great Location, the only decent lakeside hotel, next to a historic temple, great gym and sauna facilities. Very nice Bar is at the eastern side of the hotel. The staff are extremely helpful and professional as well, which is expected from Shangri la.
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in October 2008.
The lobby was ok, not really a grand one but not too tight. The staff were helpful and spoke English.
The breakfast buffet was great but a little expensive.
The location was right on West Lake but not really near the main attractions and markets but taxis are plentiful.
The room was big, nice bed, room service was quick. The bathroom was tiny though.
I was really upset when I was charged about $30 (USD) for 2 pots of regular tea by the lobby. Tea has never been so expensive, especially in China. I know I was going to be charged a lot but not this much.
This 5 star hotel sits on the northern edge of the West Lake, just where the lake is split by the causeway. Hangzhou is an extensive city, so transport is needed to get to most places, but there are great lakeside walks in three directions from here. The hotel is very luxusrious, possibly more so than usual for the Shangri-La's normal level (which is high).
The Shangri-La has two wings here, connected by a covered walkway through nice gardens. The bar and breakfast room have outside terraces which make al-fresco dining a possibility for much of the year. This is one of the best-managed and best-equipped hotels in China - but then it is also extremely expensive!
