This pagoda that we saw in a distance is called Lai Feng Ta (or Lai Feng Pagoda). The pagoda was constructed less than one century ago, but what is of greater value there is in one of the caves known for its famous carving of the laughing buddha that is more than a thousand years old.
A Great Escape

"Night Arrival Awe"
I live in a city with not much natural beauty. So I was truly escaping the city in search of a long walk on the shores of a pretty lake. Hangzhou was exactly what I needed. My friend and I took the train from Kunshan which was just about 2 hours, arriving at twilight. As we drove around the lake in our taxi we kept pointing and oohing "look at this, did you see that?" Every 100 meters or so there was some other huge pagoda towering over us lighting up the mountains and hills around the lake. It was beautiful. We couldn't wait to see what it looked like by day.
"Daytime Delights"
April is not the best time to travel in these parts as it is often windy, rainy and chilly. But we decided to take a chance and took off midweek in hopes of having a taste of the town without the crowds. Hangzhou is a favorite sight seeing stop and we quickly realized we had made a good choice. It wasn't a gorgeous sunny day but it was warm and lovely. The lake was charming.
