Hangzhou to Tunxi to Yellow Mountain Area

by kaustria

Hello:

My friend and I are planning to spend about three days in Huangzhou from the 25th of April to the 28th. We were then thinking of going to the Yellow Mountain area and spending a few days in this scenic landscape, hike the mountains etc.

What would be the best way to get from Hangzhou to Tunxi (should we fly? ) and how do we get from Tunxi to the Yellow Montain area. We would like to make a reservation in a hotel in Tunxi from the 28th for 2 nights and I am looking for suggestions for a good and centrally located hotel.

We would like to spend two days hiking and exploring the scenery and heard that the Yungu Hotel on the mountaintop is a good place. Any suggestions?

On the 2nd of May we would like to leave the mountain, get back to Tunxi and fly to Yangzhou where we are planing to stay from the 2nd to the 5th of May. (Metropark Hotel Yangzhou?) .

On the 5th we are booking a flight to take us from Nanjing to Beijing and I assume we will hire a car to take us from Yangzhou to the Nanjing airport.

Any suggestions for best mode of transport or wonderful hotels in the places mentioned are greatly appreciated.

Karin

Now, I was told by different people that the 1st of May National Holiday weekend is a very tough and crowded time nearly everywhere and it is probably a good idea to make train/plain/hotel arrangements for these days sooner rather than later.

Hi Karin,
Just answering the Huangshan question.
From Hangzhou its only a 4 hour busride to Huangshan si (Tunxi)
From the busstation its about 10 minutes to a youth hostel called Huangshan International Youth Hostel, its on the big road. 10 minutes walk from the busstation and 3 minutes from the train station.
Forgot their internetsite but here is a link

They can arrange transport to the mountain and ovenight stay for you.

In the link on the previous post you can find the internetsite of the hostel:

Great place to stay. The HuangShan itself is beautiful. Most people will walk up the eastside to the summit and stay overnight for the sunrise. The westside is even greater but very steep to climb. All paved walks up the mountain, with for the lazy ones cablecars to take you up (long waiting queues!)

Enjoy.

Growing tea

by easterntrekker

Tea growing in China is on a scale similar to the great chateaus we saw in St Emillion France. When we visit the ancient tea plantations of Dragon Well Tea we learn that the tea bushes can live for 98 years. A new tea-plant must grow for five years before its leaves can be picked and, at 30 years of age, it will be too old to be productive.
Picking starts from the end of March and lasts through October, altogether as many as 30 times from the same plants every week or so. The fresh new leaves are picked.
