Amore Guest House: Decent sleep at a decent price
I found while traveling through Timor that accommodation prices are very much inflated due to the amount of professional expats working in the area. The locals know they can charge more because these organizations will pay it.
So being an honest backpacker trying to stay on a budget may not always work in Timor. The staff told me the room was $20 per night. With a little negotiating, they let me stay there for $15.
Honestly anywhere else, I wound have said this was still too much, but it may be about the cheapest in Baucau. The beds were clean and comfortable, the window screens were in good condition to keep the bugs out too.
There was no A/C, but there was a good fan. In Baucau, a fan is adequate.
Toilet and shower were private in your own room.
Hotel provided sheets, but no towel, so bring your own.
Breakfast was not included, but you could eat up at the market for a few dollars.

Bacau Beach Bungalows: Peaceful beach chalet
Located just by the beach, this place is nice for relaxing. Coconut trees around the chalets provides nice cooling shades. I heard that if you book from the agent, they will request a minimum of 4 person per chalet but if you do a walk in, the owner will be willing to accept minimum of 2 person. Charges are per head at USD10 per person. This is best place to stay in Bacau for this price but you need to have your own transportation.
The owner stays in the last house on the right just before you arrive at the Wataboo beach or just wait at the chalet. The owner or his neighbours will see you and come to you.
This place is about 10-15 minutes away from town centre.
Nice and peaceful, great for big group who are planning to have a picnic. You can also buy fresh and cheap fish within walking distant.
