The Wesley Hong Kong

The Wesley Hotel was one of the hotels I booked for visiting staff while I was there. Right in the heart of Wanchai on Hennessey Road, with entertainment and restaurants all around. They have 251 guest rooms all with satellite TV, mini bars and tea/coffee facilities. There is also a business centre with broadband access. The restaurant features a Chinese menu and is open from 7.30 am to midnight. The rates are very reasonable.

The Wharney Hotel Hong Kong

Friends stayed here during the Hong Kong 7’s. The tram was almost outside the door, the Wanchai MTR was a couple of mins walk and there were plenty of restaurants, bars handy without having to go to far. There are 357 rooms to the hotel and all have satellite t.v., in house movies, mini bar and direct dial phones. The hotel has an outdoor pool as well as a gymnasium and sauna. Also referred to as the Wharney Guang Dong Hotel, there are two restaurants a lobby lounge as well as a night club. Nickleby’s Bar is very popular with its live music. One restaurant serves an authentic Cantonese menu while the other serves a western cuisine and all day dining. The hotel is 3 star.

City Garden Hotel

This hotel was close to where I was living on the Island. I had friends stay here and from what I heard and saw the hotel was clean and comfortable. The MTR is just around the corner and just a couple of stations from Causeway Bay. The trams were also just a few minutes away.

The hotel has 615 rooms which are equipped with cable/satellite t.v., in-room safe, mini bar, modem/data port connections, tea/coffee making faciltities and pay-per-view movies.

There is a bar and restaurant which features an a la carte menu as well as a daily international buffet. ****

Mandarin Oriental

This hotel is in a great location in Central – not far from the Star Ferry or the MTR and overlooking Victoria Harbour. They even provide binoculars in the room for those rooms with harbour views. The rooms have a two-line telephone and dataline with high speed Internet access, and a personal safe. A more upmarket hotel so expect higher prices but sometimes they have good packages. There are 3 bars, 3 restaurants and a café. Within the hotel is a beauty saloon and barber shop, exclusive shopping, The Mandarin Cake Shop which has some superb goodies and a Cigar Divan. They also have a coach service to and from the airport every 30 mins.

Grand Hyatt

There are many great hotels in all price ranges in Hong Kong in very handy locations to be able to get around freely. Before I moved to Hong Kong I was fortunate to have been booked into the Grand Hyatt on Hong Kong Island, the view was spectacular and the Italian Restaurant superb. However I wasn't paying and it is fairly costly for the average traveller.

Hotel New Harbour: Hotel New Harbour

About HK$550-$750 per night

The hotel has very good, clean rooms and a good location in the Wanchai shopping area & near to the Hong Kong Convention Centre. It is a relatively cheap hotel in the area. The service is also good.
