HK's best affordable place to stay

    by

I booked the room online through Agoda; a 10% of the room price will be charged in your credit card to make the reservation. The remaining amount will be paid once you arrive in the hostel. The hostel staffs only accept cash, so make sure you have cash in your pocket.

the facilities are terrific! the room is a bit small but it's just right since I only go back to sleep once i'm done touring around. the room has its own bathroom, which is the number one thing I always check into. the bathroom has heater too, which is great because when I went in HK it was last November and it was so cold!!! They will also be giving you a towel, shampoo and soap once you arrived.

check in is at 11am and check out is 12nn. So it's better if you'll arrive exactly at 11am for you to check in. I arrived there at 9am since I was given an earlier flight, so I waited at Mcdonalds's, ate breakfast and toured around. You can just left your luggage in the reception area if you wish to check out at an earlier time before 12noon, in that way you cannot be charged for a whole day. The Hostel owners are Indians who are friendly too.

Unique Quality: If you're looking for a place to stay in HK that's cheap, clean and accommodating, Ashoka Hostel is for you. This place is situated along Nathan Road in TST, very near to MTR, the Victoria Peak Harbor, the Star ferry, shopping malls, etc.

Ashoka hostel is very accommodating, it's the best place you can stay if you will be touring the different must sees in the country. It's verrrrrrrrrryyyyyy affordable!!! i paid for less than a thousand pesos for 2 nights!

Ashoka hostel is situated in the Chungking Mansions building where the street is commonly called the “times square” since a lot of restaurants, shopping malls, retail stores, are found within that area. There's a very large screen mounted on the Chungking Mansion Building which serves as its landmark.

    Directions: Tsimshatsui

chinese new year

by chamapin

Will Sweet dynasty close on chinese new year? If so what's the date and when to reopen date?

Re: chinese new year

by TravellingGugu

These days, Chinese restaurants normally stay open throughout the year, including Chinese new year. However, there may be exception. The year of the rabbit falls on Feb 3rd, 2011. If,in any case it should be closed, it will normally be closed for only 3 days, meaning 3rd, 4th and 5th. Good luck, I hope it stays open for you.

Currency/Foreign Exchange/Taxes

by Kurtdhis

Hong Kong's currency is the Hong Kong dollar. As of 1999, the Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar at HK$7.80 = US$1.00, with the rate being able to fluctuate by only 10 HK cents.

Traveler's checks are a safe way to carry money abroad. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are widely accepted in Hong Kong. Note that the airport is probably the worst place to exchange currency for Hong Kong dollars. Most banks will do the exchange at a much better rate.

There is no sales tax in Hong Kong.

THE PEAK TRAM

by ancient_traveler

A trip up the Peak on Hong Kong Island is a must and the modernized Peak Tram is the best way to do it. The historic funicular railway, Peak Tram, zooms up 373 metres in just eight minutes. The view from The Peak is simply breath taking. Lower terminus: 33 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong

You can reach the lower terminus:
On foot, Exit from MTR Central stn, or walk across the Hong Kong Park from Admiralty OR shuttle bus no 15C from Star Ferry Concourse in Central

Hong Kong Travel Agencies List

Tour Operators Recommended by the Hong Kong Tourism Board

If you happen to drop by Tsim Sha Tsui, there are a couple of travel agencies at Star House (South of Harbour City, by Star Ferry Pier). There is also a bunch of travel agencies at Bank Centre (636 Nathan Road, Mongkok) 3rd floor. At Causeway Bay, there also travel agencies grouped together at Hang Lung Centre (2-20 Paterson Street, Causeway Bay), 6th floor. You can also find agencies at 70 Queen's Road Central, Central & Taikoo Place, 2nd phase.

Prices depend on season, currency & demand, so I would not be suprised if prices suddenly dropped one week & rise the week after.
