If it's not too late for you- I went to check it out for a visitor. The rooms are very small, even by HK standards, but it's new and clean & there's a microwave in the hall for guests. Tiny fridge in the room. It would be fine for a short stay but I think for the 3 weeks our friend needs, it would be very cramped. Also the bathroom is tiny and most westerners would find that when they sit on the toilet, their knees are against the sink! Good location, lots of buses right outside & cheap eats. The Thai Burmese place round the back is great!

Hostel Suggestion

by fbcondejr

Hi ,

I will visit Honkong this february with 2 other friends. Were planning to stay on Hostel (Mirador Mansion or Chungking Mansion)for we have a cheap budget, is this place is safe and a comfortable place to stay?? I really do need your suggestions , thanks !!!

Re: Hostel Suggestion

by anilegna

not sure about Chungking mansion I know people that have stayed there before but it does not have a reputation as a safe place to stay, fire hazards aside (but excellent restaurants if you like Indian food)

maybe check out bridal tea house on the Hong Kong side (the HK side from my experience is generally a safer place) Sai Ying Pun is not far away from central Hong Kong (5 min by cab & walking distance) but there is nothing to do in SYP

You can go to http://www.asiarooms.com and check out hotel prices, availability etc... there are some within your budget so check them out. You can also read reviews by other travelers for each of the hotels which is very helpful.

Countless hostels to choose from. If you want a hotel, I stayed at New Kings Hotel in Kowloon within your budget. my tip has more details.

Its cental within Kowloon and any place in HK is easy to get to from there.

Travel Tips for Hong Kong

Internet service and business centre

by DonJason

Internet service and business centre I went to Hong Kong for a business trip last week. I found a cyber cafe in Wan Chai. The boss and staff are so helpful. I printed out several pages and web surfing (fast server!!) for 2 hours. It's really good to stay there with a prefect view in the town! It's 24hrs open. Price of services is much lower than in hotels. -- Recommended! --
It is located in No.94-100, Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Do not miss the marvellous night scenary across the Victoria Harbour. Buildings around the harbour on both sides with sparkling light framed around and those leaking out from the offices people who work non-stopped til late mid night. The local cusine and clubs usually hanging around

Hong Kong Tip

by matt.foster

Hong Kong is not known for her beaches, but it does have a few decent ones where visitors can take a dip during the muggy summer months. The well-heeled of Hong Kong live in luxurious homes by the beach at Shek O, which is said to be one of Hong Kong Island's best. Also popular with Hong Kong residents is the stretch of beach at Repulse Bay and Clearwater Bay. The latter is always jam-packed during weekends. Some residents even joke that the beach is so crowded that should a person faint, he would never hit the sand!

Go on the cable car. You will experience some of the best views you can ever imagine......over the mountains that overlook the sea....just fantastic. If you are scared of cable cars or heights then take a hip flask and get sloshed first.

Chinese New Year Festival

by Lemonita

If you happen to be in Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year or the anniversary of the handover (1st July), you should definitely not miss the fireworks on Victoria Harbour.
They are really beautiful and impressive. The picture was taken from my parents' appartment on the 5th anniversary marking the return of HK back to China.
