Here are the prices for DSLR: http://www.price.com.hk/category.php?c=100002

Better to check with the brand at your country before you buy if there is international warranty.

In reputable shops, I found camera prices no lower in Hong Kong than in the UK. There is also the question of warranty. In the end, I bought from Amazon.

You can get fakes quite a bit cheaper, of course, but the quality is iffy.

Camera warranties are usually the responsibility of the country distributor and (with the exception of some extremely high end pro gear) there will likely be no warranty coverage in your home country. It's funny how the sales clerks all tell you that there is an international warranty (you would likely have to ship your camera back to HK for repairs).

I live in Canada. Look at what Nikon Canada says about cameras purchased abroad:

Exactly what Grumpy said re warranty.....It will probably NOT apply in your home country!

everyones said it already and its the reasons of lack of warranty that I never found any advantage to buy in HK - same with buying in USA - much cheaper there too
but my 1 year warranty here in the UK has expired anyway as to get a 2 year warranty I had 30 days after purchase to get info back to them which I didnt so sometimes it doesnt matter a hang of a lot for some gear perhaps - and a connection when in Morocco found me someone reputable who worked for a big company to fix a problem I had with my Nikon so I was very lucky - I probably would buy lenses perhaps in HK or USA without international warranty but not the body of something expensive.

As already written there are sites online these days such as amazon and www.bestcameras.co.uk that do good deals, and often better than the so called bargain countries along with fully fledged warranties - or surprise deals such as my Nikon d90 from the bargain chainstore here Argos - with 9 month interest free credit to take advantage of!

I'm not aware of an English version of the price site. Canon Hong Kong does offer some sort of international warranty, but you have to read really carefully as to what's covered and what's not. http://www.canon.com.hk/en/services/consumer/warranty_terms.jspx

Some countries, like Australia, let you buy your item locally and you get a tax refund at the airport as long as you take it out and its over a certain value. I asked and there want any reason you cant bring it back in. We bought a camera from the local store when they had huge discounts and took the camera to the airport and got a further discount.

HK is good for buying fashion (well it is when you live in Australia where a versace T costs over $300).

Travel Tips for Hong Kong

What are those birds?

by JBourne

The Black Eared Kite is a bird of prey that is seen everywhere in Hong Kong.

The locals call them eagles and they are amazing to watch from your sky-scraper hotel room window.

It took me ages to find out what they were so I thought I'd pass on the knowledge!

Sunset at the Peak

by D._Pepper

Shopping. But sightseeing is a close second! Go to Victoria Peak near sunset, taking the Peak Tram. Then, look for the McDonald's there and head for the viewdeck at the back of the store. The sunset from there is gorgeous. The food, the shops, the Orientalia (of course, this is China!), and the people - even if some are annoyingly grumpy.

take the tram up the side of the Peak on HK island. Views that will amaze you, both on the way up and at the top. The new, shiny complex built up there is a little tacky, but wander out of it and enjoy the public gardens near by........See pic below, taken from the Peak So many....attending a Tao ceremony in a tower block in Sheung Sui, visiting my ex's elderly relatives way out in the New Territories...And this isn't really fond but is VIVID.....having the world's worst hangover on the last day of my first visit there. Believe me, HK is the WORST place to have a hangover...the heat, smells, lack of public toilets...sorry!

Visiting Hong Kong without a trip to Victoria Peak is like going to china without seeing the great walls. the Peak is 552M or 1810ft above sea levels, at the top of the Peak the views are beautiful in every direction 360 degrees, withe the view of the business district, Kowloon and victoria Harbour. The viewing deck is on the roof of a large shopping mall, make sure you make your trip on a clear day or else you will be very disapointed if you get there on a forgy day.You can get there by taking the # 15 bus from the star ferry pier, all the way to the peak or you can take the bus to the tram station and take the tram up to the peak (cost HK$20)about $3 US.
