We are a family travelling to Hong Kong on 24th December 2007 for 1 week, with 2 childern(ages 6 & 13).We have a choice of staying at bp international hotel(standard double room) or JW marriott ,hong kong island(deluxe harbour view room).Would welcome any recommendations between the two hotels.

Have you looked at the YMCA Salisbury? The location is excellent and the family suites sleep 4. If you go for it then I would recommend a harbour or partial harbour view room.

If u haven't already, check www.tripadvisor.com for reviews.

If not considering price, JW Marriott is a much better hotel and in a much better location.

It seems that the two hotels are at opposite ends of the price chart.. so i guess price isn't a problem for you? What are your interests? If you want crowd and shopping.. maybe tsimshatsui area would be good.. yup, ymca is excellent.. bp is good and location is also very convenient... ill be staying there again next year. Other hotels near bp would be miramar, prudential (prefer miramar..but prudential is jsut above the jordan mrt whereas miramar is around a block of two from TST station)

When I was there twice I stayed in Royal Plaza Hotel , next to the train station to China. 5 min walk to Mongkok MRT.

I would strongly recommend you to take up hotels in Kowloon like Tsimsatsui would be a more vibrant side to stay in rather than Hong Kong Island, which caters to more high end and top tier shopping. I would advise not to spend too much money on hotel room like JW Marriot and save up for shopping and food. You will never regret!

With kids, I'd go for the Marriott for sure. Yes, tripadvisor.comshould have reviews. Mong Kok may be crowded and vibrant but it's VERY busy and dirty - not for kids. Plenty of hotels with hourly rates too!

Re: Hotels

Mong Kok is great. Our kids (6 and 7 ) loved it and used to get a fair amount of attention from the locals and they loved it. It`s got more of a local flavour as well as it`s a bit further away from the more typical tourist areas.
I would stay there again with no hesitation.
