Smallest Rooms! 4 Star -not

I booked this hotel from my travel agent. It was a great deal with Cathay Pacific air fare. She said it had a 4 star rating and so did Expedia. Once I saw the room, I just couldn't imagine who they paid off to get that rating, and I have stayed at some glorious 4 start hotels in Hong Kong and this was not one of them!

The halls were shabby. The door had what looked like scrapes from luggage on them. The caulk around the windows was coming out. My room truthfully was only slightly bigger than it's double bed. I go to Hong Kong to work, so this wasn't good at all for me. If there had been 2 people in the room, there would be no way it would have worked. The closet was 1 foot deep. The bath room tiny. The pool was closed until further notice and so was the business center. Both were listed on Expedia, when I checked the hotel out.
I changed hotels the next day...

Small, but convenient

Empire Kowloon is located on Kimberly Road where is close to Tsim-Sha-Tsui station.
Like the other standard hotels in Hong Kong city, the rooms are small, but are clean and neat.

"Kowloon vs. Hong Kong Island"

A lot of sites will tell you that you should stay on Hong Kong Island. But I'm here to tell you that if you want the REAL HK experience. Stay near the Golden Mile / Tsim Sha Tsui. We stayed at the Empire Hotel Kowloon on Kimberley Street. It was nice, and very reasonably priced.

"Lantau Island Tour / Po Lin Monastery"

Don't miss a tour of Lantau island. The Po Lin Monastery is very interesting, make sure you have the monk's lunch (vegetarian)... it's very good.

Airport transportation from HKG

by timewaster

I will be traveling to/from the airport to kowloon 4 times within a 2 week period and plan on taking the MTR airport express. Is there a special deal I can take advantage of? or do i need to just buy 4 tickets?

Also, I am staying at the Standard Hillview Hotel on Observatory road.
Looking at google maps, i see that the closest hotel that uses the free airport shuttle bus is Empire Hotel Kowloon in Tsim Sha Tsui.

After I get out of Kowloon station, how do i find airport shuttle bus K4?

http://www.mtr.com.hk/eng/airport_express/complom_free_bus.html

Will there be very obvious signs in kowloon station?

I am not sure about the tickets but maybe Octopus Card would make it easier.
Re the K4 bus -yes it is pretty well signposted and you don't actually leave the station as the buses have a terminal in the building -you just take the escalator up. If you have a problem there is a good information booth at the station, also there is usually plenty of people you can ask (almost anywhere in HK there will be plenty of people!)

Airport Express

You can buy one of the two available packages for airport express (one way, or both ways) that include unlimited MRT rides for three days. If you were to be in Kowloon for three days and plan to ride on MRT often, they are good deal. If not, just buy one way or two way tickets. They are called Airport Express Travel Pass.

I just came back from HK and found the two-way airport express with 3-day unlimited MRT rides very convenient.

Once you get off the station, just ask at the shuttle counter. They will tell you which shuttle to take.

Good luck!

There are indeed better deals with frequent users of airport express. Find out from their ticket booth at any of the stations, the staff will be happy to show you what options you may have. I believe buy in bulk saves you some 20 to 30% off normal fares.

When you arrive at Kowloon station, after passing the gate, the shuttle buses are UPSTAIRS, so go up the escalator, you will easily be able to spot the waiting place for K4, not complicated at all. Do hold on to your ticket (or Octopus card), because you will need to show that to gain free ride.
